  1. Damn,.. just as I expected. Too many tankmates, they ended up eating the eggs. I also noticed the eggs had fungus on them. Oh well.. another 2 weeks and they should spawn again.. hopefully The females stomach is nice and red again.
  2. They spawned again, this time with more tankmates. I think once I get wigglers I'll place them in a breeding net. Or if I can grab a 10 from a friend ill try to artifically raise them. There are too many tankmates for the parents to try and raise them.
  3. Can you guys help me choose some Lake Tanganyika cichlids to populate another 33g I want to set up in my house?
  4. just found this on a website. Brachygobius aggregatus
  5. What do you feed them? Here are the pics I took today and some yesterday pics
  6. For the 4th time they have spawned. The first 3 times were unsuccessful and my male moved on to another female.. that stud muffin. Well.. on the 4th spawn.. I originally thought they would just eat the eggs again. However, this time I noticed on one side of the clay dish thingy I have in the tank.. one side had darker looking eggs and the other side had lighter looking ones. I also saw the female and male eating the eggs.. I was thinking.. great.. here we go again. But then I saw them SPIT them out into the pile of darker eggs.. I looked closer.. and guess what?? I GOT WIGGLERS!!!! What can I feed them? I need to buy it tomorrow! I need some help here people! I have no clue what I should do with these guys. Should I pick up a 5g and a sponge filter and move them into the 5g??? NEED HELP! LOL Should I pick up a tank divider so that I can isolate the tetras, corys and apistos and the other female ram to the other side of the tank and let the parents do their thing? so far I have a cascade 700 running on the side where the parents are, I turned that off, and the aquaclear 70 on the right of the tank is running. I dont want to suck up all the fry if they start swimming.
  7. no wrigglers, my male is quite the stud, he seems to be spawning with one female, then jumping to the next female lol. They seem to be spawning every 2 weeks, one of the females he ran to today looks like shes ready to lay eggs, I changed my plants around, let see if they will spawn again. I dont really have a spare tank to try and raise the fry. I read its best to separate the eggs from the parents. I think the female ends up eating the eggs before they hatch. My blue rams are still juvies.
  8. ahh well.. its cool, I ended up buying 3 of the apisto diamonds they had in stock. Thumbs up to Christian for helping me convince my gf I needed to buy all 3 and not leave 1 alone (was only allowed to buy 2 fishes on boxing day hahah) They are really cool, they are still adjusting to my tank, they are tiny compared to my blue rams, they keep going from white to blue with lines. They might be getting intimidated from my rams since they just spawned eggs. But I woke up today and all the eggs were gone (corys must have had them for a snack) and now all the apistos are out an about.
  9. really? I was down there and didnt see them
  10. Hey guys, Im looking for some tankmates for my german blue rams. I was wondering if you guys know of any local breeders or a LFS that has some in stock. Hoping to pick some up tomorrow for boxing day Thanks!
  11. Quick question, can south american puffers (Colomesus asellus) be housed with dwarfs?
  12. Yup.. they seem to be ok.. I came in on monday and they were resting on the sand.. as soon as I turned on the lights.. they took off. They are nowhere to be found, but everyday before I leave work, I put in some blood worms. I make sure some are scattered on the plants for the puffers, and the rest on the sand. In the morning, all the worms are gone. So thats a good sign
  13. Hey guys, I just set up a 20g at work, fully cycled, I have 3 danios (used to help cycle the tank) 2 dwarf puffers, 2 khuli loaches and 1 oto. Today, after I did a water change, the khuli loaches came out of hiding, an hour later they are both acting very strange, they would swim to the top of the tank break the surface then sink to the bottom of the tank, and in this case they would sink onto a fake plant and kind of curl into the branches. One of the loaches wedged itself in between the heater and tank. The other one is at the bottom the tank resting on the sand, he/she was also swimming to the top and then sinking to the bottom, and this loach actually looks like its gasping for air. I took out some more water so the water filtering back into the tank makes a bigger splash. whats weird is one is gasping for air, the other is just laying there playing dead. When I use Are they on dying? Oh I forgot to mention that since my work is like a 2 min drive from Riverfront I rushed there and Christian tested the water... everything tested out fine. Please help!
  14. There are ALOT of "pea puffers" down at Riverfront. How can I tell the difference in sex?
  15. Heres an update. My boss donated his old 20g he just took down last week. I just filled it with water, the filter crapped out so I ran down to riverfront and picked up another one. I threw in about 20 snails (ponds and ramshorn) and bought 3 pearl danios to help cycle the tank. So far so good, we have sand as substrate, some real plants and some fake plants. The snails are roaming around, a couple big ones has eggs all over the shell. We are going to let the snails go crazy, since we are going to throw in 4 or 5 puffers. I'll pick up a couple otos in the next couple of days. Heres my next question, how long do u you think it would take to recycle this tank? Hes had it for about 2 or 3 years, had a huge pleco and 3 "silver fish" he emptied the tank and brought it into work. I took the sponge from my 5g and put it in the aquaclear I picked up today. Hopefully it wont take too long to recycle this tank, we are anxious to get the puffers in and watch them hunt down the snails! haha Christian mentioned that the danios will nip at other fishes fins.. will it attack the puffers?
  16. Hey guys, I am thinking about moving my 5g to work and picking up some dwarf puffers. What kinds of fish can I have with them? I read that otos would be good.
  17. Wow that site is NOT mac friendly, I had to remote onto one of my pc desktops to surf this site lol
  18. Wow.. if some of you guys know some reputable breeders in the states, and have had successful purchases/shipping let me know! Im still shopping for fish.
  19. Just spoke to 2 different fedex customer service reps.. they said they wont ship live animals... which i dont believe...
  20. I have done it. Just a couple of things to keep in mind. Do not use a commercial address as your shipping address. If you do then there will be a lot of questions at the customs... Make sure the sender label the fish as pond or tank raised. I ended up with a cranky customs officer and it was early in the morning. He asked a lot of questions but I finally got the fish. sweet.. so say i order from a shop in PA and get it shipped there shouldnt be too much paperwork? just ship it to my house and all is good? Now I just have to find a day where I can stay home and wait for the package
  21. Hey guys, Do any of you guys have experience in ordering fish from the states? Are there any processes that we have to go through in order to get fish sent here? Thanks in advance
  22. Instead of starting a new thread.. I would like to ask if german blue rams can be in the same tank as apistogrammas
  23. dwarf cichlids, school of neon tetras or school of rasboras, my beta and a pleco
  24. An Aquaclear 70 or a Cascade 700 in a 33g. Or would you use both?
  25. Pretty close to a must, especially if you want to avoid algae issue while getting optimal plant growth. Depends... the Hagen Nutrafin 'mix your own' CO2 system is about $50, but rather limited, a pressurised system such as Alley has runs about $250. Thats not too bad, I think I will get one later (when I add more plants)
