  1. The trouble is that im not sure , the sump is 33'' by 18" by 12" and the stand is 33" high . I ordered this tank from tenacor but I forgot to get more details on the sump that they are going to supply . And here is a dumb question , Im going with an artifaical reef system , so do I really need a skimmer ???????????? . The reason Im going with fake coral is last year my son went on holiday to the caribbian and went scuba diving , the tour guy took them to 2 reefs ,1 that was protected and the other was not . The unprotected reef had been picked clean of allmost all of its coral ( just rock left ) while the protected reef was full of coral and inverts, fish you name it . So my wife and I decided to go with living color reef system . we have a 24 gal nano with coral ( i like it but after what my son saw ) we want to go with fake in the 150 gal tank . so thanks again for your help any other suggetions would be great .
  2. How long do they live, had a few blue leg and 1 red leg in my nano . blues only lived about 8 months ( I had a variety of empty shells in the tank for them to grow into ) . red is still ok but has not growen much over the year that iv had the tank up and running .
  3. Asked this same question on other page . got new 150 gal tank coming in few weeks , want to know everyones thoughts on skimmers ( brand , type , size ) that kind of thing . Like to get different experiences to help find good quality skimmer so many kinds to look at ????????????? what do you all like or dislike . thanks

    Skimmers

In about 4 to 6 weeks im going to get my new 150 gal sw tank in from tenacor . I would like suggestions on a suitable protien skimmer ( Brands, sizes, what you like or dislike about ones you have or would like to have ) their are so many differant kinds . Went to a few differant sites and read up on the pluses and minuses ( cant spell worth heck ) . Im a bit confused . I paid good money for tank and sump system from these guys so I want a good skimmer to go with it. Thanks again for your input ladies and gentlemen .
  6. Thanks for the info I will take another look ay the o-ring area, but im sure that the water was leaking from the inside of the head as while I had it hooked up I used a flash light and could see ( while the pump was running ) that the water was coming over the inside top edge of the base section of the canister head. and when I took it apart the second time I made sure not to turn it upside down so that if any water had leaked up near the motor itself it would still be in the area around the motor, and it was. I cleaned the the o-ring groove and put a new o-ring in the groove I then recleaned and rechecked the area inside the canister itself. Hooked it backup and waited , well while it was running it did'nt leak but as soon as i turned it off and let it sit for a few miniutes it began to leak again. Anyway's thanks for the help very much appreceated. Ill keep an eye on the new one to make sure that area is kept nice and clean.
  7. Happy mother's day everyone Got a question I need answered , Cant get same answer at 4 LFS Every time I put shrimp of anykind in my 24 gal nano SW they disapper in a few weeks . Now here's the big question, I checked water quality constantly and all seem's good Then my son said he had heard that cinimmon clown's will kill and eat them. what do you all think .
  8. Thanks for all the input to this problem . I work in oil and gas industry and checked on o-ring material . black is usually called butalene , it is a good all purpose o-ring , found out that you can also use silicon ( RED ) o-rings as they stay soft longer . Anyways I did not want to take a chance with a catastrophic water leak so I ordred a new fluval 405 on line , got it yesterday and hooked it up. I took the old one apart completely and checked out the whole area inside the lid , can't find a thing wrong , so im going to assume it is cracked and call manufacture to see abuot the warrenty. again thank you for all your feedback Boomer
  9. I did check all o-rings and surfaces but cant find the problem , had unit less than 1 year , someone at LFS said they had heard others had same leak issue . I have been using silicon lube or petroleum jelly as an assemby lube and never have had this problem before , my son has same 405 as me and has never had a leak . thanks guys
  10. HI BEEN DOING AFRICANS FOR YEARS . RUNNING FLUVAL 405 ON 72 GAL TANK . ABOUT A MONTH AGO I SEEN THAT IF I DID NOT CLOSE VALVE ON TOP OF CANISTER BEFORE TURNING OFF TO CLEAN TANK THE STUPID THING WOULD LEAK LIKE CRAZE , NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE . HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE . IT IS NOT THE O-RING OR SEAT AREA . COMES OUT BY LID CLAMPS . THANKS
