  1. Sounds like you have a FOWLR(fish only with live rock) tank or predator tank. I don't think you can really add to that but I'm no expert. Like crystal said there is divided opinions on canister filters mainly because they collect alot of ditrius and can create nitrates which are horrible to SW tanks. But people have used them without problems and swear by them. They are great for media like phosphate remover and carbon if you don't have a sump.

  2. wow that's an amazing tank. From what I seen that tank is mainly a SPS(small polyp stony) coral and Clam tank. They must have spent a small fortune for that tank. Well worth it in my opinion. Perhaps one day we could have tanks like that.

Here is a picture of my tank.

Nothing like that tank you linked but perhaps one day!

  3. I would definately look for a begginners book on tank care and take your time because patience is key to a SW tanks health.

Button polyps, mushrooms, hard corals (LPS, SPS) are all coral. Inverts (shrimp) are very sensative to poor water conditions. It's better to start with a simple CUC and a hardy fish.

SW tanks can be expensive but anyone that's taken care of fish can justify these costs when they look into their own reef tank.

  4. Around $1000 by the time I shut down the tank. I learned my lesson big time with that tank. Now I have some patience and buy used if I can. I set up my new 95G (hardware and 80pnds LR) for $1600. It took 6 months to find everything but I bought almost everything used and saved $$$. $1000 to $1600!! My girlfriend was pissed when I added up my 10G receipts. Oh yeah don't tell your significant other these costs. :)

If you can afford it Newbettabreeder and have the space buy a bigger tank the cost ratio is alot less when you go bigger.

  5. Don't know everything but I know this:

40 Blue Knuckle Hermit Crabs - will kill snails

    40 Nasser Snails

    1 Coral banded shrimp

    2 peppermint shrimp

    2 Fire cleaner shrimp

    1 Arrow crab

1 Magnificent anemonie - these get big, move and can sting other coral in it's path

    1 rice bubble coral

1 flowerpot coral - Hard to care for, aggressive and short lifespan

    4 blue-green chromis

    2 clarke's anemonie fish

2 yellowtail blue damsel fish - aggressive

    1 blue neon goby

    1 purple firefish

    1 strawberry dottyback

    1 yellow sailfin tang

1 psychedelic mandarin dragonet - wait for your tank to mature for at least 6 months because these feed off pods

If someone else know better please update this. Oh and don't add all this at one time!!!

  6. That rock is good but you will still need some LR that is already seeded. Also with that type of rock you will have a longer cycle in your tank. If you have the patience you can find all your rock in Edmonton around $5/pnd searching the internet (kijiji, canreef, albertaaquatica...).

I have a Koralia Nano powerhead if your interested for $10. Good luck on your tank

Here is what mine looked like before I upgraded to a 95G.
