Oh dear......so, then the ultimate question........ If "Dragon" gives up.....then do I wait until he is dead to take him out, or what is the best for the fish? I know there will be many opinions, but I'd like some input.

Hello, today when I got home I noticed my betta's eye is popped and has a 'sack' around it that looks filled with fluid!! He is in a little 10gal with 5 tetra's so I put a dose of Melafix in it. Is this common? Will he get better? What is this called??

I wish someone would have told me that fish are as addictive as tattoos!!!!!!! I am eyeing up blank spots of floor space and proposing to my hubby, "How about one there? One there?? How about over there?" For the price of his Ducati......I could get a lot more fish...... I found myself scrubbing out my little 10 gal last week, that my eldest daughters had butterflies in this spring, just to have "a few more fishies".......MTS here we go.....

Okay......planted vs tank with plants.....I love the look with lots of plants and fish peeking out of them!!...well, some open water would probably be nice also. As for dimentions..... Length - 3 ft Width - 1 ft Height - 2 ft 45 gallon I still have to read the website I was directed to, then I'll post back for any questions.

Okay, all these pictures of planted tanks, and the few that I have seen are driving me crazy. I now look at my tank and dream of real plants!!! They look so lovely. Where do I start? I have 4 young children that could destoy Nature's Corner Store in a very short period of time, so I need to learn lots of stuff before I go in there! Lights? My tank is deeper than normal ones, is this okay? What fish can I NOT have with plants? How much $$$ are the lights needed?

Hello to all, especially the loach lovers this time. I have a question. One of my loaches, Mr. Yo-Yo, is feeding only at the surface. Yes, he is braving the Killi's! There is plenty of food on the bottom, as I do have many other loaches and cory's and pleco. Why would he do this? Have I over stocked bottom feeders? There is lots of aeration down there, lots of food, happy fish, and one top-feeding bottomfeeder. Strange to me. This little guy is consistant, and just won't eat from down under. I have a 45 gallon with 2 Kuhli loaches(sm), 1 Kubotai Loach(lg), 2 Yo-Yo's(sm), 2 cory's(sm), one upside-down catfish(sm), and one pleceo (for bottom feeders).

If I use water, plants and rocks and a few fish from my 40 gal, would it still need to cycle? Would cyling just take less time? I did a water change with my big one, and just put that water in the 10 gal. Can I just get male guppies so no babies??

Two of my daughters want a guppy tank. I set up one of mine, a 10 gallon for them. How many guppies can I put in there, what should the male/female ratio be, etc. Any guppy people out there? Any tips on where to find really cool looking ones?

Because liquid waste is channeled from the tank into a series of underground pipes where it is released into the soil (usually underneath the lawn) and broken down by bacteria. I'm guessing salt water would kill the lawn, hence the original poster's dilemma. gotcha. thanks.

I have a snail, size of a cherry, I keep thinking it's dead, as it sits on the bottom on it's side for weeks. The one day, it is up cruising the tank. Then for another week or two, it seems dead, laying right on it's shell. Then, once again up and at 'em. Is this normal? Is he sick and struggling? What can I do?

Just curious, why would a septic system matter?

Besides cleaning the lens on my little camera and maybe buying drapes for that sun-shiny window, any tips on how to take better pictures of fish with just a normal little camera??
