  1. One little, big thing to watch for that I read about a while ago on this forum.......

Make sure the new water going in the tank is not flowing directly to the intake for the filter. The prime works great by just adding to the tank BUT I guess it happened before to someone that they think the chlorinated, new water went straight into their filter without the prime working fast enoughg....they killed off the bacteria in the filter and had tragic results.

  2. I have 3 golden wonder killifish...they stay exclusively at the top. They males are bright yellow and the female is a duller yellow. Maybe, just maybe once a week I will see one of the males cruise the mid level of the tank for kicks.....then he's right back at the top.

  4. Hello Greg. I too love Lake Malawi fish. I have a school of Demasoni right now that I have just acquired that I am trying to keep happy and healthy. When I achieve a nice balance....(some have died on me and I don't know why) then I would love one or two peacocks to throw some color combo's into the tank. I still have to ask many questions and research what I can put in with these guys successfully.

    Welcome.

  5. Hi, I bought some apple snails a couple of weeks ago, and with them came some home made snello and i also got a recipe. The snails love the jello, but it really clouds up the tank, bad. Are there any recipe's that dont make a real mess of the water? Any and all snail food suggestions and recipies welcome please. I'd like as many options as possible.

the recipe i have is tums, fish food, gleatin and baby food crushed and mixed together and frozen....any thoughts on this?

    thnx in advance, robin

  6. let's say heavily stocked then, don't get me wrong. the tank has had the same inhabitants, none added, none died for over a year. my rams are all well except for the one gbr. i have had him for quite a while. i just don't want to add any more juvies or too many more fish as it is just perfect right now. it is balanced and beautiful and healthy and i don't want to mess with it.

  7. okay, okay, he gets nls, 50%water changes weekly, he has his own portion of the tank he has claimed and is respected, the tank is super areated, super loved, over filtered and...oh....i forgot the flowers....maybe one of his plants in his corner will bloom...

.i was wondering about the partner/buddy side of things. some really wealthy people with big homes and great food get lonely for the same kind. dogs don't always substitue.

i am venturing out of the community fish world and am learning about the types of fish that like to pair up. bear with me!!!!

    :bang1: :bang1:

  8. that is what i use in my 10 gal with plants thriving.

In the case of a 13w, would that be enough to grow plants? That's probably my main concern. The fish do fine with any light.
  9. Hi there, i have a comm tank with 2 - well now one, german blue rams, 2 red rams, congos, glass catfish, killi's, angels, loaches and cory's. the pairs of rams are always 'paired up' and hang out on their ends of the tank near the bottom. one of my little gbr's died, and now the other is all alone....sob sob. sooooo, do i leave him be, or get him another gbr buddy. my concern is he is 2 years old, would a new or juvie one tick him off? i love the species and eventually will stock many more in this tank, but it is packed right now and no one has been added or died in over a year!!

  10. While there are subtle differences between a number of the formulas, I would agree, the pellet size is more important than the name of the formula. If you already have some 1mm pellets, there's really no need to go out & buy the Cichlid formula 1mm pellets.

I was waiting to hear from you too!!

Okay, well these fish came with "NLS Med. Fish Formula, 2mm sinking pellets". They seem to hold the pellets in their mouth for a while and then spit them out and make a real messy cloud and then try to eat up their spew.

I use for my community tank of rams, loaches, killi, congo's, glass catfish, cory's, etc......(rambling), anyways I use the "NLS Surface feeder formula .8mm semi floating" (they actually sink just as fast as the other ones)

The cichlids like the .8mm kind just fine, but the picture on the jar has angels, guppies, hatchetfish and the like. Sooooo can I assume that this will give them the proper nourishment until I need to go to henry for other stuff and then get some cichlid formula?

Thnx in advance!! Just want happy healthy fishies!!!
