  1. i have to agree, do not use it. it will be too thin and break. i work for a glass company and you would be amazed at what could cause a break under pressure. think about your house and your fish. and the possibility of water flooding your house then causing a fire....sell it for a reptile tank and buy a new one.

  2. she/he is about 6"-7" now. about 2" bigger since i got her about 5 months ago. and im sure she has packed on a good 1/4" in girth. lol she has always came to the front of the tank for my four year old daughter, but never for me until today. i will post some new pics of her. i have moved and changed her tank around since the last pics.

  3. well the crayfish and my rohm had a couple of showdowns :guns: but they never really came into contact. although after about 4-5 days the crayfish is dead. he is under a piece of driftwood, which he dug a burrow under. doesn't look like he got trapped, but hes dead for sure. oh well........

  4. so this weekend past i decided to try a crayfish. my rohm never sits on the bottom and is very shy, so i dont think the crayfish will have a chance to pinch her. so far the crayfish has had one encounter with the rohm but he never backed down and the rohm left him alone. he is cleaning up the left over food and staying out of harms way......lets just hope it stays that way.

  5. i decided to make my daughter a tank for her betta mainly because the one he is in is small and also because im cheap.

it measures 15long, 12 wide, and 11 high. made it out of 5mm glass and a high grade silicone. just filled it up and so far it no leaks! :smokey:

im going to post pics when we add rocks and her betta fish..........stay tuned. lol

  6. so i was given a 8" regular pleco when i setup my tank again. i originally used him to cycle the tank along with some tetra's my landlord gave me. after giving away the tetra's and adding the only other tank mate for the pleco ( a black piranha) , i have noticed that when i feed my piranha, the pleco comes out to feed on the scraps. is this common? he eats everything form goldfish bits, which i dont feed often, to prawns. the prawns seem to be his favorite. when the lights are out he will drag the prawns back to his log which he hides under. do they eat things like this in the wild???

  7. here's some pics of my new rohm. hes settled in great and his red eyes have started to come in. hes now in a 90 gallon with a rena xp3, double t5 with 10 000k and 6500k bulbs, seio m110 powerhead and if i can ever get to stop leaking, a fluval 304. anyway enjoy!'

  8. i have a 4"-5" black piranha and would like to create his natural enviroment as best as possible, so i have heard that using peat in my filter would be great for the ph and for my piranha. so my question is....has anyone used this and how much did it lower the ph?

  9. so i recently bought a bunch of plants, and even though i checked them all.....i have a butt load of baby snails. I'm really cautious about what to use in my tank because of my black piranha. i know they are tough fish but i would not risk my pride and joy!!! so any ideas on what would rid my tank of these little buggers???

  10. so after getting a job with a glass company and a black piranha, i have decided that this winter im going to build a custom tank. im thinking a 6'x2'x2'. which is 179 gallons. according to a weight calculator i found online......the glass would have to be 10mm and weight 280 pounds and the tank full would way 1780+ pounds with rock and gravel. anyone think this is wrong? just seems alot of weight.........

  11. the sand i got was under a different name. it is target sand but now called something else. i never had a problem with the size. it all came out fairly well. but since i have changed directions with the tank and decided to get a black piranha. he will be coming on saturday and he's about 5". im so very excited to be getting him!!

im now working with speedy glass and im thinking about making a custom tank for him when he gets bigger. something in the 180 gallon range with a 40-60 gal. sump. lots of plans....just need to find the time. lol

  12. so after trying to sell my 90 gal. setup, no one would offer me what i wanted for it so i decided to setup again! this time i will be documenting it step by step. something i have always said i would do but never had the patience to do so. how things change when you have kids! lol

so..im starting with a standard 90 gallon tank. t5 lighting and a rena xp3 for filtration. As a lot of people, im on a budget so i have decided to buy 2 bags of target play sand from home depot, which does not look bad.

pics to come as soon as i charge the battery in my camera.

  13. ge silicone one is the stuff to use! although the home hardware weathershield works great as well. The g.e. product does not have anything listed on the tube for aquarium use because of liability issues. they dont want to be responsible for someone killing all their fish if they dont use the product correct. as long as it does not have any mold inhibitors its fine to use. so the g.e. one is great stuff. let me know if you have any questions about sealing your tank, used to make them in newfoundland. good luck
