  1. Alright, after two grueling days of fiddling with the doors and their hinges their on! Put they're not pretty...

I was going to completely finish it today (I still might) but I have some running around to do and I needed to wait for the glue to dry to I could sand and paint. Stay-tuned!

  2. I've never attempted this but for what its worth my opinion is that if its just a small patch job and the silicon is aquarium safe I think I'd try just draining some of the water.

Maybe later on, down the road, when you start to notice that your having problems with other silicon areas of the tank redo it all with some fresh beads.

I think everything will be fine but I'll still be interested to know what happens.

  3. Cute setup.. I agree with corvette, I have a rubber lip and with in a few days I didn't have to clean my glass anymore! I'm going to get another one for my 14 gallon. My otos are just not doing a good job. I love those rocks by the way.

Thanks. Those rocks are called "lava rocks"

  4. To me they look like your basic fruitfly, sometimes with longer antennae

And the worms are like a clearish/green and just move wriggling about, seems like they're destroying my plants...

Whoa, I've never seen anything like that in an aquarium before. Don't suppose you can take a picture? I've tried to google a picture of what you described turned up with zero.

  5. Little update, I think my nirtrites/Ammonia are now at 0, but I have a little problem with "worms".

It appears as if there are fly (fruit fly or something) larvae swimming and eating my plants...

Would it hurt the white clouds to add them or would they take care of the issue?

O sure, cause I finally updated my journal you have to as well 40 seconds after huh?

Do you still have the worms? are they those hair-like thin white ones?

What do these fruit-fly's look like?

  6. Well this is my new setup. Its easier for my sis to feed them when I'm staying late at school now. My newest friend is this little, tiny, thumb nail sized bristle nose pleco. This little guy is amazing! He's cleaned my anubis plant leafs so well within three days, I love him!

  7. As promised! I've done some work on the stand. I've glued in shims in all the cracks as best I could. Needless to say there where a lot of shims... I've also painted the inside and top/surface with two coats of black. I'm just waiting for it to dry and in a few hours I'm going to put on the side panels and figure out how I'm going to install the doors.

  8. I've been meaning to try this since learning about it in a psych class, they did it with Gouramis, where they took a light shined it on the Gourami then presented a female. Took her out and kinda repeated it, eventually giving him the light increased sperm + fertility then gave him the girl lol.

Something along those lines would be neat to try.

    Interesting...

  9. Stability helps "stabilize" your tank, it seems to me that your tanks are fairly new, this helps them when they are cycling and can also be used when you have ill fish. I always have stability on hand, and yes it is by Seachem. When you are doing a large water change I would highly recommend it, it does not do the same thing as prime therefore can not replace prime. You can not over dose the stability either. In my new tanks I pour it right into the filter, then dose it daily for several days.

With stability I believe one cap full does 10gal, but you can double or quadrople that when your tank is new. With prime it is one capful for 50gal, so you would only require a little less then half a capful for your 20gal, and even less for your 10gal, no sense using more prime then what is required, there is no added benefit to it, it just ends up costing you more in the end.

I've had the 10 gallon up since December and 20 even longer. The reason I had to take out so much water is because when I cleaned out my canister filter media and the hoses, there was some residue still left in the hoses or somewhere. Then when I had it setup and running it spewed all of it into the tank making a huge mess! So I needed to thoroughly clean the gravel etc.

The airstone helps circulate the water, I have them in my 29gal tanks, as well as HOB filters, so the water is obtaining lots of movement, this ensure's oxygen to the fish.

I have a marineland C-160 canister filter. Its rated for up to 30 gallons, does this not create enough water moment? The output is stationed above the water-line not below, is this inadequate?

It seems to me if your fish are gasping near the top of the aquarium this could be a sign of high nitrites, if you don't have plants you may want to concider something even if it is short term, to help control the nitrites.

I have four plants two Anubis and two java fern in the 20 gallon.
