  1. More work on the website! Fill in the about us section, add more articles, format the website to make content access clearer, talk about when and how members get together and what is discussed rather then just referring to meetings, post pictures of Maddy?

  2. ... hopefully encouraging me to walk more.

You may want to try getting yourself out walking in preperation for the dog as encouragment. Have a goal like once you go for two 5KM walks a day for 20 days you are ready to start looking.

The other way tends no to work so well, leading to poor animal health and shelter drop offs.

  3. I want to type of dog my dad used to have on his farm...

Keep in mind your location and the room the breed you select needs. I fell in love with a border collie named Maggie that need a good home, but my available yard and limited walk time would not be enough for her.

Heelers (as in nips heels, not make you well) need a lot of room and need to be worked/played with. If you go outdoors a lot you might be fine, but as a city dog they can become aggressive and listless.

  4. Ok, let me fraise that differently. I absolutely want a dog or large cat. While a cat takes less work and is easier to care for and hopefully causes no fish tank problems. I'd love a dog to join me for jogging. I'm going to be very selective as this is a pet I'm going to have for it's entire life. I can't get a small dog as there are mastifs next door. While they are very friendly a small dog could easily get hurt.

Great to hear. Seen way to many issues with this over the years.

  5. Personally i do not blame the vendors for the most part but some others i would never buy another fish from again. Back on topic. I see perfectly what you mean about people skimming and getting the wrong information. I think maybe we could have an open thread that just states the city(edmonton or calgary as there are multiple stores in each city)or not and what it was, when you bought it and when the diesase showed up and in QT or not. It would not point fingers but would give a good impression as to what dieases might be out there (trends) and what you would want to wach out for especially if it is not something you have heard of or do not normally watch for. I think this would be a happy medium and you are right about the possibility of skimming=bad rumors so i think vendor names should be removed and it would allow for the option of pming for further information.

Mods what do you think :well:

    L

If even once when I had a sick or dead fish i could get 2 out of 3 people to agree what disease it had I might agree with you.

  6. There was a site somewhere that I read which stated that the law regarding pet food was created as a result of pressure from the pet food suppliers in Canada as a way to control the market.

Always room for a good conspiracy theory somewhere! Score one more for free speech?

  7. Doctor says it would be good for me to get a pet...

I guess I am worried that you did not say you would like a pet.

While pet ownership is well known to be both mentally and physically therapeutic, I would advise caution. Getting a pet because you should and wanting a pet are not the same. In former case maintenance like walking can take on similar resentment to taking medications over time.

If you choose to get a pet I wish you all the best.

  8. ... if you want to warn someone about a store or have concerns

I bought a bag of fish with the guy on the corner, I took out 6 and he took the rest. His got fuz and died in his QT tank. Mine went straight into the big tank and are fine. He blames the store, I blame his handling of the fish since he was ruff with them. Who is right, both, neither? At the end of the day I hear so much "I got this from that" speculation I tend to ignore it all. You never get all the facts, you get the facts people think are relevant.

Are warnings that useful? You should be taking the same precautionary steps no mater what. Does THIS need to be the sites of warnings?

  9. Technically isn't my good opinion of Canadian aquatics a vendor review? It took place.. It's posted.. Sometimes it's enforced and sometimes it's not. I think we can all agree the system needs some work.

Yes, technicaly it was a vendor review. No you did not get busted. Seems kind of like telling a cop you speed all the time but don't usualy get tickets so they should do better job?

The mods seem to try and cut some slack. I commented on a local pet store sale, and there were a few posts before a warning was posted, and even then the thread was not closed. They are trying to find a ballance, and I think for the most part it works.

  10. I can find it on my calendar, just not this year, :chair: It should be May 10th. Baos, thanks for the heads up

You must be thinking of the open invitation CAS breakfast hosted by Dave Howarth at Sun Shine Restaurant I suspect. 9am Saturdays 422 Meridian Road NE, the next one is on May 8th!

Last time I attended one with fishclubgirl I had to setup a tank to hold the fish she some how got me to buy from Riverfront, you have been warned.

  11. I tend to go nuts over a little thing like it's the end of the world...Feels more like the sponsors rule and the members get the shaft.

Sounds like a great reason to stop people going off whenever they want to. Similar to the assumption made of who makes the rules we seem to get assumptions to what lead to what in stores.

Quite frankly the curbing of spouting is one of the reasons I spend so much time on this forum rather than forums where "people in the know" bash unchecked and at will. There are lots of forums out there that allow and seemingly encourage that if that is your choice, but I would prefer this board remain free of such things.

  12. There is a black plug on the motor housing. If it is all the way in the air can build up as you describe. It needs to be pulled out, in my case as far as it can go and still clear the canister. I needed a butter knife to help when Rena support was leading me through it.

With the air gap at the top the motor will overheat, eventually leading to issues.

  13. T DWAG - How do you get your tank up above 85c? I must have cheaped out on heaters. Two alternatives T DWAG; 7teen 250 watt ebowjaggers, or change the C to an F.LOL As i understand Bio-Bacteria like warm aireated water.\

I'm not sure they like it that warm! I suspect your origonal post meant F but put C. 88-90C. Never too late for an edit!

  14. I know this is most likely a stupid idea, but I asked out of curiosity, I was just curious if adding a couple of clams/mussels to a 5 gallon would improve its filtration?

    Thanks guys

Here is my understanding. You need a fair amount of water movement, that is unfiltered, in order to help the filter feeders filter feed. If you don't have this feeding can be an issue. You need to make sure in this moving water you have the microscopic critters they need to eat.

As for your other question, not having seen the video, think the need for more mussels or mucas and stuff they filtered but did not eat.
