  1. Just a heads up. Calgary/Red Deer Petlands will be getting an order from Jeff Rapps first week in November. I'll be posting prices/availability 2 weeks before the order will be arriving and be taking orders at that time.

I think I'm going to have to sell some furniture to make room for more tanks. :smokey: The old lady is gonna kill me.

  2. Bred the original male with a female eureka red, I wanted to get more finage and blue in the line. I also like the jake shape alot more, which really showed itself in about 25% of the resulting young. I had a few males that have much better finage than this one, but the overall color quality wasn't as good, so they won't be bred.

  3. Speaking of weird hybrids. This takes the cake. When a couple of my OB peacocks were spawning, A male Petrichromis Trewevasae made his way into the action, 2 of the young stripped had definate petrichormis traits. I kept them as a curiosity, now they are 2" and are actually kinda nice. I'm glad I kept them, now I want to see if they are actually fertile. Never thought that fish from 2 different lakes would crossbreed like that.

  4. wow...that's pretty mean for that small. Shame you can't use egg crate. Maybe since they are so small, some zebra danios would help, Giant danios if not. Otherwise, i'd just say to put more visual obstructions in the tank. Maybe put one grammodes in the tank to hold the dominant spot, keeping the haitiensis from jousting for dominance.

I have 4 of these suckers in a 20g long tank with plenty of hiding spots, but they are fighting like crazy! lip locking and shooting around the tank after each other like little pit-bulls.

I've tried adding more hiding spots moving them around and they still fight over the same one.

They are too small to use a eggcrate divider and i don't have any mesh to cover over the eggcrate.

The only other spot i have is in with the larger grammodes and i don't want to scoop the Odos out tomorrow...

    So...any suggestions?

  5. My landlord forced me to get the dehumidifier after coming to visit during the winter. After seeing the how the ice ripped apart my window sils I was given the choice of given a dehumidfier or getting rid of the tanks. So i got a dehumidfier. I tried putting some of the water in a bucket, and sure enough, an oil slick formed on top. A shame it's not usable but oh well. Time to go back to make due with using snow. Thanks for the input ! .

  6. I haven't been able to find much information as for care requirments for the blennies. I've been just trying different things. They seem to like bloodworms, and that's about all I can get them to eat right now. Very Very Very territorial, esspecially with each other. 4 barely get along in a 6' long tank. Their skin colors up with some salt in the water, maybe brackish? Sunridge Petland still has a few available, they haven't given me too much trouble yet, I'd suggest giving them a try. I only recommend that if your getting more than one, get all females. The male I have even fights with plecos, very mean.

The Red Gold Peacock is one of my babies, he's breeding right now making my third generation. I've gotten stock for this line everywhere.

The bristle nose is about 3.5" long now. I can't wait to breed these guys, it'll look awsome to have a tank full of little yellow babies.

  7. One of the things that I found with using NLS with Africans is that it is the best for bringing out the blue color in peacocks. There are several foods out there that can make the orange and red as bright, but nothing that affects the blue like this. The other really good thing is spawning. Since using NLS clutch sizes have gone up, as well as the frequency of spawning . I can usually expect my females to be holding again within 16 days of being stripped. Growth rates are also increased alot

  8. I've seen those strawberry peacocks that you mentioned before. I sold a few of them at the Sunridge Petland about 6 months back. Nice fish, damn expensive though. I do have a lead on some more though along with some other line bred "Frankenfish" :). These I'll be able to sell to the public at a much better price. PM me if you'd like to see some preview pictures.
