  1. Yup, is a stunning example of being able to draw a distinction between disgust at poor treatment and using humor to approach the absurdity that the police will interject in a “fish betting ring” as if it was a high priority.

…or it may just be a good way to belittle three moderators in one go?

HAHAHA. You slay me, Froggie. Are you sure it's using humor to approach this topic or is there the fear of not being able to say what you want to say out loud?

You employ two possible outcomes from my statement. Try harder, but don't leave your camera alone too long. It's getting lonely.

  2. My killifish just swallowed a whole rummynose tetra after I put 4 in. Should I be worried? I'm assuming so because it looks like the tetra is just stuck there.

How should I make him regurgitate it?

Update: Nevermind, I just scooped the killifish out and toyed around with it until it spit the rummynose back out.

    RIP new fish.

  3. Don't lobsters and crabs just sit? What is your motivation for housing a non-active organism?

Anyway, I'd imagine you would buy one from a supermarket since they are considered a food rather than a pet. In fact, since it's a food source, I would imagine that the coloration would not rival that of a typical lobster/crab caught specifically for aquaria.

  4. What I'm trying to say is, if your aquatic husbandry isn't perfect, then you shouldn't make it seem as though the guy just skinned a live puppy and cooked it over a bonfire.

I don't see how we are doing that at all, I mostly took issue with the lack of basic information in the story.

Okay, maybe that's not what I'm trying to say regarding husbandry. I'm sure this guy knew more than most of us think he knows, regardless of his accident. Oh, and yes I did watch the video beforehand.

    Thanks for asking.

  5. In terms of tolerance for mistakes, you guys should be a little more understanding. He might have effed up royally, but then again, haven't we all? Yes, yes we have. What I'm trying to say is, if your aquatic husbandry isn't perfect, then you shouldn't make it seem as though the guy just skinned a live puppy and cooked it over a bonfire.

By the way, it's worth mentioning that he knew his pet was venomous, and that he would have been a bigger idiot if he didn't even bother calling his girlfriend to let her know he was stung. Also being a vet does not mean he is to be involved with fish very often.

  6. Everybody just loves being a critic. It must be fair to crucify people like this because the news report wasn't a 2 hour documentary on if Kevin managed to do research on his Lionfish and if he was being careful or not.

Should we condemn Christian to the same fate? After all, he got smoked by a Lionfish, not once, but twice. Right? Right? No? Pop quiz time:

What's the difference between getting charged by a bull and purposely standing in its way to get charged? C'mon guys, let's be more sensible about this. The owner might have screwed up, but we have no way of knowing the assumptions that we just made unless it was completely obvious that this guy did not know what he was doing (read: he was doing routine water changes).

  7. A better question to ask is "to those who have gone bare bottom, would you ever go back?"

Same sh1t, different pile. Haha. I'll probably end up taking your spraypainting advice, but the fact of the matter is that reef tanks with a sand bed look a lot damn better than one that doesn't. The only mission is to filter out the pros and cons and see how much work I'm willing to do.

As for midgetwaiter's comment, what was bad about adding the aragonite? Did it make the tank harder to clean? I have a normal Remora skimmer that I am planning to use on the 33, and from what Albert and many others tell me, it'll do a pretty fine job of skimming.

  8. Guys, I'm starting a 33 gallon reef tank VERY soon, but the concept of substrate is still a mystery to me. Some people say that with a layer of substrate, maintenance becomes a larger hassle and a problem called "nutrient sink" may also occur. Does anyone have any stories to share as to why you did/did not get any substrate for your tank?

I'm kind of torn between the two, and would like to know more about this before I make my final decision.

  9. Has Ingrid Newkirk taught us nothing at all? C'mon guys, for all it's worth, stuff like this will continue to happen on a daily basis.

Best solution? Spread the word quietly. There is no point in making a big fuss about couple hundred of artificially enhanced fish when there are literally thousands being captive bred each day, and even more in the wild. If you really want to put things into perspective, think about if the persons responsible for this type of treatment would give a _____ about what you had to say.

    Heil! Moogled out!
