  1. Looks great! Like advice from UBroke...trim it before adding water and make sure the roots are rooted nicely.

I had HC planted on my Fluval Flora (7.9 gal) using dry start. HC grew lushly, green & looked very healthy.

After 3 weeks..I then added water, and that when the problem started. The HC started to uproot and died.

    My mistake were...

    - didn't trim it when adding the water

    - didn't use the proper substrate (diameter was too big for HC's root)

    - didn't have enough substrate (it's not deep enough)

Some people said that 3 weeks are still too short, I should've waited for another more weeks before adding water.

    but of well...

Good luck with your HC...and I'm looking forward to see more pictures & tips from what you've experienced.

  2. two thumbs up for Nature Aquarium style...Big fan myself as you probably noticed. I feel that more people need to be aware of the truly calming and artistic potential fish tanks have... more iwagumis! less colored gravel =(

I'm the fan as well ..enjoy watching it. I wish I have one.

  3. My female betta is such a drama queen betta :D

This is the second time she 'played' dead with me.

I also noticed it happened when I didn't pay attention to her.

I do a regular feeding & water changes. But there were times when I just too busy and didn't spend time with her...and when I realized, I found her already lying looking dead and made me panic thinking she's gonna die.

She did that for hours, didn't move and acting dead.

After giving TLC for hour(s) she' recovers and swim actively & happy.

I am not sure whether she just wants my attention :) or she's carrying eggs.

Does your beta do the same when carrying eggs?

  4. Thank you for sharing. This motivates me again to work on my tank :)

Nice! I like the rocks too.

Update Dec 14: and once again my attempt to set up a nature aquarium failed :(.

I guess from now on I'm just gonna enjoy it from the picture and your post.

  5. Thank you all for the suggestions.

I did try pushing the HC down and as vallisneria suggested..added the water very..very..very slowly. After 1 week, the HC looks good, at least the HC don't get uprooted so far ..:)

The only problem now is ..I start seeing some algae on the rocks as well as on the HC. Boy..I just want to have a carpet plant, the algae should not be included

  6. I have planted HC (dry start) for more than 3 weeks. The HC looks good..lush & green and I thought it's time to fill the tank with water.

I then poured the water in..slowly & carefully. I am a bit disappointed because few bunches of HC started to uproot :(. I tried to plant them in..but the HC started to spread out. I decided to stop filling the tank so that the rest of the plants won't be uprooted.

Should I take the water out and add more soils and re-planting? Personally..I don't really wanna do this because more works & I'm afraid that this will uproot more HC. But I guess if there is no other option, I have to do this.

The tank now has probably 20% of water. Any suggestion to prevent the uprooting?

    thanks for your help.

  7. Welcome to AA forum.

I like this forum. I found people in here is very helpful and resourceful.

Btw.. I'm very interested in getting to know more about Nature Aquarium concepts/methods.

Are you going to have any seminar on this topic? when and where?

  8. I have one. Make sure you secure the 3d backdrop with the lamp clamp before you add water...I know with mine the pads that are suppose to make it stick didn't hold.

You might want to add some extra sand or substrate first before you add the pebble substrate that came with the tank (its not alot).

A lot of the tanks when they first came out had faulty lamps that would short circuit, if you have any problems with it, the Fluval rep will replace it for free (they did on my tank anyhow).

Thats about it, its a great lil tank, but Co2 system sucks and gets expensive. The seal on my nozzle wore out after just 4 months.

Plants grow like crazy in it though, I like the fert for it.

Good luck, post some pictures when your done setting it up.

    Thanks for the info.

That give me a reason why I may need to take the background out. I want the tank can be seen in all angles..but I'll see if I can take the background out without leaving the adhesive or mark on the glass.

What kind of plants you have in there?

  9. I would just phone hagen and ask them to send me a new one. They're pretty good w/ customer service

    Thanks Tbarabash.

I never get the update..but then it's probably time to let go the Edge. 10 days ago..the Edge gone for good :(

On the bright note, I'm now setting up a new Flora. We'll see how it turns out :)

  10. picture? also... I am betting that its just corrosion since the stock filter is more to the right of the opening and splashes water up.

The image I was trying to post here is still too big even after I resized it. Apparently.. I only have 44kb left out of the 1 MB images I can upload here
