  1. i agree with skynoch it depends on what you want to do, bigger is always better i built a 300 g with zavlar but wish i went bigger. width is more important then hight if you want to keep larger fish and a tank gets alot more expensive the taller you build because of the cost of the acrylic or glass, also my tank is 36" deep but only filled 32" and it sucks to try and reach to bottom of the tank. if you can keep it around 30" it will make it alot cheaper to build.

for a filter a diy sump would be the cheapest way but if you can afford it i agree to go with ultima filter

  2. had a death from bloat today, i screwed up a water change the digital thermometer i was using got off calibration by 15f or so colder, so when i filled my tank a week ago i dropped the temp almost 10f.

i have read that a sudden change in temp can cause bloat , i noticed it two days ago and started adding salt but it was dead today.

so i lost the largest male now all i have is one male ,one female out of the six i started with. hope to keep a pair the 60g tank is looking empty with just them and 4 little salvini's i'm growing out from a spawn

  3. Very nice fish....probably my favorite actualy.

I had a few of them myself.

How are they doing?...no problem with bloat yet?

hey thanks for taking a interest

i do like them so far had some problems with aggression when a pair formed. lost three due to aggression now i'm left with what i think to be two males one female

    no bloat yet

i never kept this breed before my understanding is that the should reach 6-8", so far seem like slow growers

  5. i know what your saying about 100$ drift wood every time i find a piece i like in the store it is just way to much for me to spend on a piece of wood. I have been tryin to find it but it is hard to do and to make sure it is a hard wood. that is one option the other is order on line i havn't order drift wood but i did order suplies from pets & ponds i like the free shipping on larger orders or big al's online has it as well.

  7. Here was my tanks as of may 24 2010. i would of posted these then but was having problems attaching pics.

Everything I have is being grown out for a 300g I'm hoping to get running soon. I know my tanks are over stocked but like I said they are being used as grow out tanks, everyone is getting along so far.

  8. I just got in some new cichlids off of tnt aquatica , 6 cichlasoma salvini and 6 Herichthys bartoni. Got them ready with drip acclimation plan was to put them all in a 30g but the salvini were much larger then the bartoni so i moved my breeding con's and put the bartoni in a 20g with tiny baby cons.

  9. "I love my monster tank, but there are a few disadvantages of owning a large tank."

If you don't mind me asking what did you mean by "disadvantages" to a large tank?

like not moving it to easy?

    the large water changes?

    the evaporation?

    the cost?

or is it just a all of the above. if you had to do it over would you and would you do anything different.

  10. i would love a tank that size. would like to know what you have going as a filter? did you use glass or acrylic? you said you sealed it with liquid rubber Zavlar did you have any problems adhering the front. i read i dosn't stick to glass to well and silicon dosn't bond to well to it. i could be wrong i have not working with it. i'm building a tank and always looking for options
