  1. if your using pressurized co2...no the fish waste won't be enough...co2 and no dosing is kind of like taking steriods and not eating... The ferts come dry..almost the same consistency as salt...You just add to the water..kno3 comes mixed in water due to legal reasons..but i figured out the dosing for you already.. for a 75 gallon... dose as following: 60 – 80 Gallon Aquariums +/- 30ml KN03 3x a week +/- 3/16 tsp KH2P04 3x a week +/- 3/16 tsp Trace 3x a week plus your seachem iron..dose the iron as directed on the bottle. Excess nutrients will NOT cause algae..We can get to the cause of algae later...
  2. Use the belem...hc is a pita...repens is a good choice as well... either way this tank should look good
  3. ok...you need to start dosing nitrates, phosphates, and potassium....your cheapest option is go to All Seasons Garden Center on 10027 81 ave...Ask for 250g of kno3, 250 g of kh2po4 and 250g of trace... How many gallons is your tank?....Ill give you dosing instructions when i know the size of the tank... Next cut your light down to 8-10 hours a day...14 is just to much even with a break...
  4. very nice..Can't wait for the updates...What are you thinking for plants?
  5. 425...what are you dosing right now?....deficiencies can be misleading...
  6. You can still use excel or h2o2 for spot treating algae on ur hardscape but like jvision said its not needed as a carbon supply.. You can also use it in premixed fert solutions so no mold issues occur....Seachem iron may contain glut but not very much...I'd have to look on the seachem website for a for sure answer.
  7. All Seasons Garden Center.
  8. With work controlling most of my time these days, I had to start somthing that didn't need a lot of attention. tank specs: 35 gallon 30watt t8 eheim 2215 tetra whisper 20 hob playsand plants: hygro, crypts, ludwiga.. fish: misc..tetras, bolivians, rasboras, mollys, pleco, corries.. this tank is dosed once a week i dose.. 1/4 tsp of kno3 1/16 tsp of kh2po4 1/16 tsp trace. Monthly water changes. Started tank July 30/11 Aug 25/11
  9. a bit to much phosphate in 10-4-4....i wont recommend using those fert spikes but they could work...im guessing they contain urea...which is fine if you plan on never disturbing the substrate once they have been placed...a common fert spike to use is jobes fern and palm...its 16-2-6...but tough to find here...osmocote plus is the best but once again tough to find here.. your better off just getting the flourish tabs at ur fav lfs..or go dig a hole in ur back yard..make tiny balls out of dirt...stick in ur freezer over night and place them deep in ur substrate...eventually they will come back up but they work..
  10. any lfs sells them..just look in the filter media section of ur fav fish store
  11. Id hook up the ro system and just add a little baking soda and gh booster...I think you will find it easier to reconstruct ro water then to reconstruct well water..
  12. just bring some water to a lfs and get them to test it...its free...
  13. where do you live?...its odd having no gh in alberta water.... african cichlids are your best bet for your ph but you would still have to increase ur gh quite a bit..
  14. isnt crushed coral used for rasing kh not gh?..gh is just calcium and magnesium...1 tsp/10 gallons calcium sulfate..1tsp/20 gallons epson salt...that will raise your gh
  15. check out the site..there is tons of cool videos..aquanet.tv
  16. A video of shrimp in wild...shrimp
  17. Plantahunters video of bonita springs...lots of cool natural scapes.. riverscape
  18. ya i can only find a recipe using grams and im not doing the math...aquabrains instructions sound about right
  19. oops i misread that...Ill find out just give me a sec
  20. The influence has a pic on here of one of his tanks..He has some of the healthiest Alternanthera R. ive ever seen..Im not sure what his secret is.. A defiency doesn't make sense to me since its such a slow grower. defeciencies usually show up on faster growing stem plants.

    20 Gallon Planted

a couple misc pics.. I have since took this tank down..All fish were moved to a non co2 40 gallon..The crypts, hygros and ludwiga were also moved there..the downoi went in the dry start..The rest were moved to a farm tank..When the dry starts done ill add back some of the plants to that tank.
  22. This is what I found floating in my tank last summer..Its some kind of salmon fly.
  23. Its pretty common to have issues with the plant you have...Some will tell you more light...Some will say potassium...I dosed heavy ei and still had issues..The only thing that solved my problem was co2....I found the plant actually grew better when shaded as well...
  24. just increase your co2... add some kno3 just to rule out nitrates or potassium but im still thinking co2...
