  1. i just converted my 180 gallon into a sw tank, just a fowlr tank for now but the live rock waas a brutal kick in the junk but once your past swallowing your own vomit at the cost its really not that bad

maybe keep the 300 as fresh for now and start up a 90 or 2 and then switch over, i have always been like salt water is bs and its too expensive blah blah , its the same as fresh you learn it and its second nature, think about all the crazy stuff you learned during ypour 15 year stint in fresh same crap,,, just like fresh dont believe all that stuff online, find a good local who isnt going to benefit from your set up and listen, im certain im gonna f up my 180 but sometimes you gotta buck and and grab ahold of them to make sure you still have them and go donkey, i finally caved because i was running out of freshwater killers and exotics that had not passed through my home and damn it i want some nemo fish, lol

good luck in whateveer you do but if you do it think how sick that would be... im not after shark.... i want me a big mean nasty octopus haha never had a fish like that.

lol i quit with the salt idea after a few weeks of research. the way i keep fish I would have rock and a nurse shark 5k later feel bad and go back to fresh where the monsters need only space :)

  2. wtf is the red devil???

and if its that serious that you cant find the meds just scrap it and start over on this site you should be able to source all kinds of fish , with otu this SICKNESS they have lol

Hello all from Calgary !! Love this website. Lots of info :) I have joined hoping that someone may be able to help me find some levamisole in Calgary as my tanks are infected with the "Red Devil" and I'm ready to give up. :( all my 2 month old fry are infected also and not looking so well. Anybody please help me :(

  3. build a hood, or canopy and go to your local hardware home depot like store and get some UNDER COUNTER halogen lights ,

the benefit of halogens is you can acctually pic your kalvins so you could buy 6 lights and run 2 of 10000k and 2 20000k and whatever else your after and then you will have full spectrum super stupid bright and it wont cost you 10000 for some t5 set up whose bulbs need to be replaced eveery 6 months

the only downfall is halogens get HOT as poop

    my 2 cents

or if you wanna do the damn thing you could order a few HID HEADLIGHT KITS off e gay and get your wire on , im just saying

Hi there...I have two 150gal tanks (5 feet long) & one 220gal tank (6 feet long) & am looking for some T5 lighting for them...

    any suggestions???

Do you plan to go high tech or low tech?

for 6 feet the best option to go is 36"x2 imho, better bulb choices, easier to sell.

    for 5 feet..hmm....24" + 36" ? :)

  4. [feed them night crawlers or dew worms whole, also hunks of real meat seem to dramatically explode there growth, my sengalus was "maxed" at 6 inches , then he got thrown in with the big boys , and his ddiet changed dramatically and he began explode in size, unfortunately shortly after i was so excited he was begining to explode he was then EATEN lol there are also draw backs to living with the big boys

    quote name=Bang74' timestamp='1313189531' post='2245710]

Mine seems to have topped out at 6 - 7 "

  5. i should also ad that they have laid eggs all over the damn magnet and around it so i dont know how to remove it without squashing a big batch of eggs there is no easy/damage free way what if i put the guppy thing over the magnet like a prison for the eggs, either the mom or dad will be pissed im sure we'll have to see , i may have to diy a loose fitting net ovewr it or something,

  6. [the whole thing is just totally unexpected, there is no conditioning no planning just chucked them in the tank with the others and after i put them in i chuckled and said to myself now dont be stupid and you'll survive, SURVIVE lol they seem to be thriving i guess the constant threat of being eaten or disfigured lol gets angels in the mood, im gonna try and save the fry/eggs but i think im gonna leave them for a few days here the parents acctually seem to be doing a good job of keeping everyone out of the top right corner of my tank, there is a 3rd angel in there who has been taking a beating from the other 2 for a couple days should i remove it from the equation?

i hope i get fry too i think it would be cool to accidentally be breeding angels these are very pretty marble angels witrh orange head so i have no idea what the breed is but there very pretty

the tank water temp is 82 degreez, and my big gravity feed biofilter makes it sound like its raining indoors lol so maybe that has something to do with it i dunno

i have no tanks running that arent filled with catfish or micro killers so the best i can do is a guppy breeding net thing so we'll have a go at it and see,

  7. so a few weeks ago i brought home these black marble angelfish that i purchased at a tank close out they were almost fullgrown, beautiful shape, all fins and bodies immaculate , i HAD no interest in them at all but they were far to pretty to leave behind, so i chucked them in my 180 semi predatorial tank and posted them for sale, lots had expressed interest but the fact that im in red deer seems to throw a monkey in the works almost everytime,

all day today while im laying on my couch sick as a dog i see 2 of the 3 doing what i can only describe as something weird in the corner of my tank next to my big mag glass cleaner, so long story short they seem to have spawned all over the damn glass cleaner so what do i do, i mean these guys are beautiful so knowing that i cant just scrap the eggs because #1 breeding stuff is cool, and #2 accidentally breeding stuff is even cooler

here inlies my issue they live with 2 16 inch plus bichirs a 16 inch black ghost knife, 1 royal pleco, i bn pleco, 1 12 inch suncatfish <who is a major ahole>and a few other misc beasties, why they would choose to spawn in there i have no idea but seems to me like one of the worst tanks to try and raise babies in, so what do i do>?

do i try and remove the mag with the eggs all over it and stick it in another tank?or leave it until the fry are hatched? or is this just a good way to feed the beasts i mean i dont want the whole works to get eaten but im unsure of what would be the best course of action, my dad suggested just leave them he said angels are tough but i mean they are by far the smallest fish in there, certainly no where near the meanest and frankly what is a honda civic gonna do to a semi truck lol all im saying ,

so advice input comments please let me know

    thanks

    Dreezy

and yes realize putting them in there not the best idea however they have had no issues with anything in there and are all in 100% health so i figured if it aint broke....

  8. [thats awesome, unfortunately im dead locked in red deer i'll have to check it out

Macdre you need to join one of the two aquarium clubs. Heck join em both., They each have two auctions a year I believe.(cgy and edm) Ive been to a handful of the edmonton ones. They are hit or miss when it comes to finding certain fish. But they are always fun. Plus Harold is usually there so I grab some fish off him too. BTW u dont need to be a member of either club to attend and bid on fish. Ity is also easy to auction your own fish, I think u need to be a member for that though! Lots of members from both cities here that could fill u in.

  9. thankss for the tips, sorry if it is a stupid question but i cant keep up, stuff is advancing faster than i can intake, still trying to figure out why twitter is cool, who cares when someone brushed there teeth or had a hot dog for lunch, who has time for that ish

macdre: first thing you can do is to ask an Admin to change your user group to a local group, as that increases your storage limits by 10 times. << I've now done this for you, so don't ask.

Second thing is there is a really restrictive number of image resizing options out there for free (only like, one or two BILLION) so I understand your frustrations.

Try this: Win XP/Vista: Official Microsoft Resizer Tool Or WIN7: PowerToy Clone for Win7

  10. from what i understand the way to sex ornate bichirs is based on the anal fin, the males have a more POCKET like anal fin whatever that means and the females have a more fleshy tail area, can anyone confirm , or has anyone had any success with breeding them, i belive i have a large female but im unsure, and does anyone have a lrg to xxl male there willing to sell,

  11. buck a gallon is about right for just generic tanks laying around , but nobody gave the stuff to you so unless your rich you dont have to give away your stuff , if its in nice shape clean holds water take the kijiji route other members a buck a gallon is legit but for the general public, put higher than you want for it and if someone talks you down then your at YOUR price mark, unless your rich , in which case you could give it to a good organization or even schools, like for a classroom, my kids daycare had rthis disgusting ugly 33 gallon and i was like DAMN that is awful, so i got it all cleaned up and running right , now the kids have a fishtank they can see in and have fish while there enjoying snacktime, or find someone who is struggling and cut them a deal, broke people like fish too its just a pricey damn hobby thats for sure.. but dont sell yourself short unless your a big baller lol

I'm selling off most of my fish room, and I'm trying to get an idea about how much I should be charging.. I've gone back through the classifieds but didn;t find many matches.. I have a bunch of tanks.. 10 gallon and up.. Is a buck a gallon about right.. no matter which size? And HOB filters.. All four sizes of Aquaclear.. Some of them pretty old.. Thanks!!

  12. go left field on this one ....

now here me out before you assume im bent haha i aquired like 40-45 green cory cats and im telling you i put them in my 180 gallon , now on a side note i have never even gave a cory cat 15 seconds of my time , but when i had that huge cluster they were so cool , it was like a flock of damn birds in there they would all chill out together on the sand annd one of them would lift and reset and the whole damn flock would up and reset it was pretty cool, and hey there acctually pretty good little clean up crew in there own right , that being said A cory cat is lame but a couple dozen would be legit not too mention you would still have all of your top water for a huge shoal lmao@xodak talk to timbruun out of millet he has like 50-55 exodons he is trying to sell, and from what i understand they are all quite nice shape , ask sprucegruve he was over there he'll give you the 411

and on another sidenote if anyone has another giant wave of corycats let me know , strolling down memory lane has made me want another blanket of cory's lol or something else, im talking like 50+ let me know

I would go with 20-25 harlequin rasboras or if you can find them galaxy rasboras.

And like 20 ottos(AC has some really nice ones)

As for the shrimp make sure it's a heavily planted tank and use cherry shrimp they are very prolific and cheep to replace.

  13. you can change 'Jack Dempsey' to anything you want. just go into your user control panel (where your member name is at the top right of any screen on the forum), go into 'my settings', choose the 'profile' tab at the top (far right) right under where it says 'Your Options', scroll down a bit to find the box to type in right under 'Member Title', and put what you want. tada! lol.

the little yellow fish under your user name in all of your posts increases with the number of times you post. for example, you have 2 fish and 150 posts, and i have 4 fish and just over 1200 posts.

as for the photo size problem, if you have a Photobucket account (free to use!) you can re-size your photos on there and then use the image code to copy and paste them directly into your post. should work. try the 640x480 size, it works well for forum postings.

lmao thats funny it was up to me all along hahah

and now i know why people use photobuxket , you are a one stop question answer stop thank you....

  14. [qSITE SUGGESTION

I love aa so good job, my only Beef is im not smart enough to figure out how to post pics my camera has such a high mp that it wont allow it . im sure it is a simple fix but by dialing down my mp will it them allow me to post?

my camera is fully waterproof and i can take some pretty sweet pics but between barely being able to figure out the damn camera and not knowing how to post lol its all for nothing , any thoughts on how the best way to do it is..?

    uote name=Tanker' timestamp='1309320411' post='2243955]

A scroll bar on the right side box would actually cause a formatting nightmare on the page; it's just the way it's built to be compatible on so many different browsers and adding it at this time is not feasible. It may appear later, so don't give up hope.

Others have already suggested the other fine 'new content' tools we have to use, so I won't go on about them.

  15. unrelated but still moderator directed how can i post pics on here my camera is like 15 mp and i would LOVE to post some of my pics and diy project but it says my files are all too big, now without getting into a huge computer lesson what is the easiest way for me to post some shots on here... should i dial down my mp's on my camera or whats best...

user rating how does one advance in the ranks, not that i want recognition i just hate having JACKDEMPSEY beside my name .... can a brother get an l number pleco... predator, something dang i'd be happier with kuhli loach lmao
