Wouldn't be the substrate I say. Sounds like by what your saying a small cycle or something you used to clean the tank. Angels are super sensitive to any change in the water.

Sure I have a 20 tall they can go in to grow big enough for my main tank.

I have had my blue male for almost 2 years, my blue female for 1.5 years and just got a very pretty orange and blue male this past month. My cousin has my old red male an it's almost 2. I notice the older they get the more lazy they get lol

so as i finish pulling everything out to find the little frigger, I got some new pictures of him. I am thinking now as I got much better pics it could be a female clown pleco. here are the pics

Ok so i am thinking the second one very well could be a ranger pleco. Was about to take new and better pics but my camara's batteries went dead lol.

First one though, i am sure is a L069 as it has the same spots on the face but as stripes on the rest of the body. Should be interesting when they get bigger. right now they are about 2-2.5 inches each.

I love your little numer one pleco - such a cutie! Reminds me of my darf clown pleco L448 but I think it is a different. For your second one, I am guessing L106, Spotted Orange Seam Pleco. Both are neat looking - enjoy!

the L106 has whiteish spots where mine has black spots on white.

This is one I bought as a normal "gold angel" but I believe its more of a platinum gold. Very shiny in the light as you can see. From AC

This is my Platinum angel again from AC lol I dont really shop else where, as they are the best that is closest to me.

I also have two much much smaller ones I am growing out in the basement and will update when they get bigger. Smallest in my living room tank is about 2.5 inches without fins. They are in a tank with a large piece of driftwood, 4 black tetras, 3 neon tetras, one pleco, female blue betta and two yo-yo loches that hide in the knots in the driftwood. It also is a planted tank with light sand for now.

They're beautiful! Especially love the colors of the first one!

Thanks! It was the best looking one they had at the time. Had it for about a month now and turning in to a wonderful looking angel.
