  5. Hey guys, This is a strange question. I am doing a "Dry start" tank and i am planning on transferring some of my micro swords in to this new tank. My concern is, i have an out break of Ramshorn Snails, which i do not want in my new Tank at all. Since i am doing a Dry Start method do you guys think the Ramshorn snail/eggs will dry off and die during the Dry start period? and i will be Snail free when i flood my tank. or will the eggs get preserved and hatch when i flood the tank. Thanks
  6. Hey guys, I am in need to purchase a light fixture for my 10 gallon Planted aquarium. (just HC and micro Swords) I purchased one of the marineland duel light led fixtures and returned it. It was obvious that it was not enough for these high light intensive plants. Now i am thinking of the "Plant version" of the light fixture Marineland. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24726 what do you guys think? or should i go T05? and if so which would you choose? thanks
  7. Hey sorry, i have been off AA for a bit. Firstly thanks for the replies it really helped out. I think the 5ppt is a wrong measurement and 35ppt is closer to what they need. I have been experimenting with the amount of salt to use and i found that 1 gallon to 1/2 cup of marine salt does the trick. My brine shrimps has reached 15 days old already. I have been feeding them active Yeast and it's working well. I base my feeding amount towards the murkiness of the water. Also temp wise i don't even bother with a heater, my room temp is below 70 and they are doing just fine. As always the bigger the tank the easier to manage, i found that it's crucial to have at least a 5 gallon tank for them. Surprisingly they are a very easy creature to start a culture for. All you need is salt and a bin. **** note, best way to do a water change is to siphon with an air tube attached to an air stone. It prevents the little buggers getting sucked in.
  8. Hello, After 24 hours i have successfully hatched my baby brine shrimps. I would really like to start a brine shrimp culture in my 5 Gallon tank. My questions are. 1) I have read that i should have a 5ppt of salt in the water, but i don't have a meter to track it. Is there an good way to measure the amount of salt i need? i.e. 1 tablespoon per gallon 2) I have read mix reviews on temperature of the tank. Is there a temp that works for you? 3) how often do i have to do water changes. Thanks -Martin
  9. Day 4-5. Game over Well i am sad to say that the spawn did not work out. On day 4 the bubble nest decreased in size by half. Mustard also started eating all the eggs. On day 5 the bubble nest disappeared and no eggs could be found. Mustard was then removed for recovery. I guess this journey is over. But i will try again with the same pair in about 3-4 weeks. Molly is starting to recover from the damaged fins. I have put her in my healing tank which consist of higher temperature and aquarium salt. I will began to condition the two once again and i will keep you guys updated.
  10. Here is a youtube link of them embracing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FmRuI59Tqg
  11. Day3 Revised. (Dec 12) looking well Watch the live feed now!~! they are embracing Great News ~~ the pair have started embracing.
  12. Day3. (Dec 12) Not looking well Well hopefully you guys have enjoyed the live feed that i have put up. If you are interested in doing your own just sent me a message and i can help you out. This morning the pair are not looking too well, Molly is really damaged but she still has her vertical bars. She still continuously engage herself into Mustard's bubblenest so i guess that's a good sign. I think Mustard's bubble nest has decreased in size, but he still blows a few bubbles here and there. As you can see in the live feed that he is still chilling under his nest majority of the time. If you guys have any suggestions or requests feel free to just post something. Molly's Damaged Fins Still has her vertical bars.
  13. Hello members of the Alberta Aquatica, Here is a link to a live feed to the tank. http://justin.tv/mahawka I am fairly new to this forum so please forgive me if I violate any rules. I am working on mating two of my betta fish. The male is a double tail blue/ mustards gas, and the female is a purple/ red plakat. I am using a 10 gallon tank that is about half full. The water temperature is at 83 degrees. I have found that that temperature works the best for me. A Styrofoam cup that has been cut in half is used for a place for the male to blow a bubble nest. Also a corner filer on minimum flow to keep the tank clean. Both of the fish were conditioned for a week on an alternating diet of worms, pellets, and live brine shrimp. I will try to do daily updates to the spawn log to keep you guys in the loop. With any luck I will have a few shots of them actually mating. So any way here it goes. Day 1. (Dec10) Introducing Both fish are moved from the conditioning tank into the breeding tank. The female that Is named Molly is showing extreme interest towards Mustard (name Male betta). Molly is showing very visible vertical bars and also dancing/ flaring in front of Mustard. Mustard is also showing interest in Molly by swimming from the Styrofoam cup to Molly Day2. (Dec 11) Bubble nest When I checked the tank this morning Mustard started a bubble nest under the Styrofoam. The pair still show strong interest towards each other.
