the hot item fish in ontario right now are either frontosa or feather fins. cyps and other feather fins are a big hit and bring in some good money.
frontosa are always nice but if you want colour fronts are only blue and white and black. feather fins are like a rainbow of colours.
both bring in good money if you can get them breeding.
my nangu frontosa group i have 2 females currently holding.
if you plan on wanting to breed i suggest buying WC adults of hatever species you want. its costly up front but its better then waiting for someone elses fry you buy to grow into adults to breed for you.

i moved my group from my 160 and removed a few extra males i have discovered that i had when i was mislead in my last sale. i was given 4/4 or 5/3 ratio. so took all the females and combined them with my other females and took my 2 bigger males and moved them all up stairs into my 110 gallon.
in my 160 they would get spooked like crazy when someone would walk by the tank even in the dark. when the room light would turn on they would freak and when someone would open the curtains they would flash all over.
so i finally got sick of it and friday sept 29th i moved them up into my bedroom where there is less stress and traffic. 2 days later 1 female was holding but i didnt see the actual breeding take place. then yesterday i got home from work and i caught them in the act again this time female #2.
so right now i have 2 females holding since i removed all those extra males i discovered. kind of ticks you off when you trust what people sell you and it turns out to be WAY off. buyer beware i know but its sad you cant trust anyone these days........ i wont name names. my first group i bought was bang on 2 males and 5 females but the second group of nangu i was extremely disappointed. i was trying to sell the entire group but no one will buy then with a 6:9 ratio and i wasnt even getting luck on trios. so i think i will just try and sell off a few of the spare nangu males and keep what group i have for breeding and then save some money from the fry and buy moba. i wanted to sell the whole group to buy moba but that wont be happening thanks to the wrong ratio making it unappealing to prospected buyers.
sorry i wont be posting pics of the holding females because last time i did that the female freaked out and swollowed the eggs. its not worth losing the eggs again. i will post pics of the eggs when i strip her.
thanks for reading

Thanks dan. Right now I am using NLS cichilds formula for everybody in the tank.
since I am very new to lake Tang. not sure if the fronts do need some high protein food. what do u feed your fronts? any live food at all?
my kitumba fry get NLS growth formula and the adult nangu and moba get NLS 3mm size color enhancing formula

nice pics!
my f1 kitumba are a little bigger then those guys you have.

5 Groups Now!
I have a W/C colony of Zaire Blue ( 2 Males and 8 Females )
These guys are sweet. I will post some pics in a couple weeks after the tank gets set up..
what species of zaires? the main 3 are moba kitumba and kapampa. my guess would be that you have moba if i had to guess. they seem to be the most common and popular and easy to get your hands on zaire.

im from ontario is that why? it doesnt tell me why i cant but i have a feeling that might be the reason. if so you should devote a section to either all of canada OR ontario.

i know a guy selling Group of 4 seven stripe frontosas ranging from 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches long. found him on the internet no pix though
they are kigoma, whats the price and are you thinking of getting them? if so ask what the ratio of male and female is out of the 4. you want at least 2 females 3 would be ideal
-
could it be bloat?
-
zaire species tend to be more blue also meaning they are more sought after. there are more then 1 varient of zaire frontosa tho, you are likely to have one of the main 3 called moba, kapampa or kitumba.
post pics of them if you have some, i wont likely be able to tell which is which varient or anything but would still be nice to see them

i just sold my 2 stingrays for $190 and also got 4 mpimbwe as part of the deal as well. the mpimbwe are 3-4.5 inches except for one of them is only a fry and is about 1.5 inches.
now i have 6 mpimbwe in total and 7 cape nangu
-
My nine mpimbwes range from 5 inches to 9 inches but I don't know the gender. The smallest half of them are 18 months old, the others probably 3 years old.
if thats your mpimbwe in your avatar pic that this is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do yours breed yet or no? any pics to share? are they F1 or do you know?

personally myself i have 7 wild caught Cape nangu frontosa also known as (neon blue). 2 males and 5 females.
the males are 8 inches each and the females are 5-6 inches each.
it is a breeding group and ive only had them 2 weeks and within the first week i had a female holding but eggs were not fertile because the tank hadnt astablished an alpha male yet so neither male was settled in enough to fertilize and she swollowed the eggs.
i am working on getting another species of frontosa and setting up a 100 gallon tank for that group but im not sure which species yet and how many. im thinking either mpimbwe or else a zaire species like kitumba, moba or kapampa.
here is a couple pics of my Cape Nangu frontosa and there is lots more pics on my site at the link in my signature
feel free to post your pics and species

i just guessed because of the bare bottem tanks and the way you netter them against the glass for pics like i have seen a lot of importers do, my bad
so are those prices EACH? or for 4 golds and 2 regular?
-
the pics look like either importer or exporter pics. so neo are you an importer? they are great looking fish
-
i love the metallic green colour they turn when in the light. ive seen then quite often for sale but i belive they were $99.99 each

im not a big fan of toronto.......... the only thing i like about there is they have hot chicks and i love the leafs
other then that they are pretty close to new yorkers in some ways with their rude attitudes. like you hold the door for people and they just walk right on thru like its your job to hold the door for them.
i call it city syndrome........ people lose their manners living in the city. from now one if im holding a door and people dont say thank you im dropping the door and letting it hit them in the arse.
