so i should just keep the lights off till it goes away or what?
-
lights have been killed. i got home from work and noticed it alot worse. it was the first thing that got shut off. i will be seing about a protine skimmer also. i have one a friends right now.
ill do a water test also a bit later. and its been set up for about 2 weeks or 3
-
how do i get rid of it. normally in a freshwater tank all i did was put a bubbler in there. will a protine skimmer help the problem? any ideas?
-
we arnt sure what type yet. i wanted to get it all set up first and then decide.
and for the filter maybe ill do that. it sounds like a good idea. do you have the direct link for the 2 X 250 w for 300 bux. im having trouble findding it.
If you have the time, look for used setups. If you must buy new, i get some of my equipment from J&L aquatics ( jlaquatics.com ). 2 x 250w with ballasts, sockets, and reflectors is about 300 bucks new.If your going to use the rena, pull all the media out and just throw some live rock rubble in there. Every few weeks pull the canister apart, rinse it out, and give all the rubble a good swish in saltwater to get all the crud and detritus off it. i ran a canister at one time and couldnt believe all the crap that accumulates in there.
Got an idea of what kind of corals you want?

ya im going to do reef tank. corals and such. i have a bit more money then i thought to spend on all of this. im running a rena xp3 on the 100 gallon and i was told that would be fine for a salt tank. i have heard alot about the remora pro so i think ill pick that up possibly and as for lights i have enough room for 4 - t5's under my hood. i wouldnt mind metal halides but then i gotta cut my canopy to get them to fit im sure.
how much do those 250w halides cost in the stores. i dont want to go crazy but i dont wana cheap out of the lights.

hey people im switchin my 100 gallon freshwater cichlid tank to saltwater. i have the live rock on order right now so thats not an issue. just wondering what i will need for a reef tank. i mean for lights, powerheads, protine skimmers. poop like that. i will have about 700 bux to spend on all of it. right now i have 2 40 watt lights and i know that wont be enough.

living in edmonton the selection of tanganyikan fish is pretty slim sometimes.
Paracyprichromis nigripinnis
Ophthalmotilapia ventralis any type
neolamprologus buescheri - chituta, Zambia
that is my list

i wish i didnt bring the kids to the auction. i would have sat down and actually participated instead of just picking up some fish fromp pop eye, dunl, and ellie.
i have never been to the hall before but sands is usualy a good place to hold these things. the reptile show is also there about a month back or so.
but next time i will deffinatly join in the auction.
did all the fish at the auction sell?

the tank is actually on a stand. but the stand is like 2 - 3inches tall. i was worried about putting it right on the concrete but this will work perfectly
and ya. thats my bar above it. that was an old picture. since then i had a bday and got more to add to the shelfs

so i bought my 180 gallon from jroc a while back. after setting it up once i had a great idea. put it in the wall
behind there is my crawlspace. i have alot more room to work with under there then standing on a chair and reaching down. and its out of the way
this is the new picture

my water flow isnt an issue. i have 2 big powerheads in there that move the water pretty good.
