Congrats ! Count me in too .

I do agree it's not ideal, it's what I have. Trout chow? From where?
BTW, the point of this thread was to address the concern that people have that if I buy their fish, it's to feed to my lungfish. I wanted everyone to know that it simply is not the case.

I'm not sure , I'm using up stuff a friend gave me when their dog passed away . It is a square flatish kibble. He loved the jumbo sized NLS but that was way too expensive to feed him in such quantities. I introduced the dog food and he swims around the surface waiting for it . He sucks a chunk from the surface then settles to the bottom and chews it . He repeats this and hunts around the surface until there are none left.

I'd need to borrow a video camera. A couple people on here have been here to check him out and watched him chew his food .

I have used feeders as sometimes it's the best food and that's what these fish are meant to be in nature . This is no different than using other live foods such as brine shrimp and worms .
I keep several tanks and species of fish, none of which happen to be feeders. There's been some joking around as to feeding my lungfish. Just to set the record straight , it gets dog food. It would cost a fortune to feed him feeders. He also happens to LOVE the dog food.
When I'd like to buy fish from others here online , it is NOT for feeders. Like everyone else , I'd just like to keep them too .
Since you've read this, thanks for your time . I just wanted to declare my intentions since for me , this has become an issue. Sue

Do you have brine shrimp eggs? Hatch some of those out, or micro worms etc. Live food for fry is great . If not you could simply crush up any food you were feeding mom . Don't feed too much but several times a day. Once they grow a couple cm you'll be able to release them back as the beta should leave them alone (they'll outrun him). Good luck and congrats.

Home Depot, Rona etc. in the lighting dept. They are used in ceilings to help defuse light.

I'm wondering why they are not focused until you click on them....humm
There was no flash . The aperture was open for more than 9 seconds gathering ambient light. Across the road and up the street was a street light . This was the only light source. I found it interesting that it gave a very red to amber glow .
Thanks .

I went out to let my daughter's dog pee at 1 AM and was struck by northern lights! They were right above me , bright as can be and dancing. The colours were outstanding. I normally see these lights come October. I hurried back into the house to get my camera and tripod. Being as I've never used the night settings before I set it to the auto settings. It only took me 3-5 minutes to get it all outside and by then the lights had moved to the north and were barely visible . I was so disappointed . I'll go out tonight and try again ....just maybe.
Since I'm out there I might as well practice, so I selected some subjects and here are a couple of shots. The only lighting was the streetlight across the street . Click on them to see a better shot.

very pretty. mother nature's artistry is the best .

Very good start . I'd suggest placing the rocks kind of together and off to one side. Balance this with bunches of plants on the other . One thing I've learned from other members here , use only one type of rock, it looks much more natural .
Have fun with it , it's an addictive hobby with tons of growth potential

I was at Nature's today and picked up (amongst other things) 2X Cascade 300 HOB filters. On one tank it replaced a &^&%^^%$%^$Fluval 405, the other two Aquaclears (70 / smaller one). I am VERY happy with them. They are quiet , large area for filter media and large water distribution . I'm going to get two more. I will soon have some filters up for sale .
Thanks Henry !

The poor ditherers are likely chased to death lol Perhaps removing the hiding spots (rocks etc) and leaving it open as the store tanks are . You'll be amused as how many fish can hide behind 1 rock lol. They may be forced to get used to being in the open after a couple weeks reintroduce the rocks a couple at a time . Just a thought

Would you be interested in taking in stuff too, like a tank/stand ? I'm thinking in exchange for stock or food . I'm thinking it could be great fore sales if a person saw a fish and really want it but think they have no room or money to set up another tank . Voila an inexpensive tank set up and now they've bought the fish too. For some of us (likely a lot of us), we graduate to larger tanks and need to clear out midsized to smaller ones. Just a thought.

...not warm enough? Lake habitat "temperature remains stable year round at an average of 80° F (26.5°C) "
I've never tried these so I was just skimming over stuff online . They also say...."Water changes amounting to 25% of the aquarium every 10 to 14 days are appreciated, a change of water in excess of this quantity or at more frequent intervals is not likely to be appreciated and can cause undue stress on the fish."

Nice pics , thank you . I'm glad the bass tastes much better than he looks lol

I think they are good for spot checks . I do trust the liquids if I see signs of stress in the fish though.
