I think showing it who is boss by giving it cement shoes would be appropriate.

Thanks everyone. I have it in the bathtub now, uner a piece of granite with 4 cups of aquarium salt,hot water and 1/2 cup of bleach. I'll check on it in the norning.

No I didn't boil it It's a really big stump, about 16 in. accross. I washed it. What kind of nastys?

I started calling it it names though..."you measly little twig" for instance, but it's still fighting me lol. I'll just have to keep holding it down until it surcomes.

I was in there about a week ago, at first glance I thought it was a convict in the pond. Even at 10" he was dwarfed by a couple of the kois. Nice fish

I just bought this new piece of driftwood today to put into the 72Gal. but it just wants to float, how do I convince it that it looks better at the bottom of the tank?

BTW I already tried sweet talking to it and even idle threats, I'm at the point where I've got a big rock on it and talking to it like I'm Capone !

In my -to this point- limited fish hobby , I've always had a communty tank. Other than that , 20 years ago , my passion was breeding bettas just for fun. I grew up in Bonnyville where the only FS was a few tanks in the back of the Valley Hardware store. I'd only been exposed to livebearers and other FW fish(no africans at all). Now I'm addicted !My first shot at cichlids was convicts and kribs and now I want WAY MORE!!!!!Up is my 72 and my other tanks soon. Thumbs up to this site and it's peeps.

I look at the old pictures of my tank and how it has improved now, and I have to thank all those who have helped me see how to make it better, and you are one of them Jason. This site has inspired me to cruise the web, see the planted tank contest winners as with all those show tanks...WOW . And with all the help available and all the easy to access information, it's going to look great. BTW I've now aquired 3- 25 Gal. tanks and that'll be 5 more tanks to put into action....can we say fish room yet? lol

After talking to one of our members I was so intrigued about going for a visit and seeing his 40+ tanks.

One of the edmonton fish store employees took us for a visit to his fish room where we saw several different discus and a huge arrowana, amoungst others. He was able to show me how he preps water long before the water changes ect. But of course those beautifull discus were the stars.

My suggestion is , how about a schedualled event where some homes are open to a tour? As a garden club we do one every summer and I also took in a pond tour this summer too. It could be a limited registered number of persons ect. Would anyone be interested?

Hi, I.m new too. I live 20 min. north of edmonton. I've maintained a 33 g with convicts(sand and rocks), and a 20 g community (sand, plastic planrs and drift wood) for several years. My kids are now grown and out so now have time and amazingly enough , a little money to play with. My hubby and I just bought a 72g tank with stand and I think it'll be a community tank . I've been reading all your posts for the last 2 days. Awesome advice on cycling and decore. I'm following advice on painting the back black. I've found a deep red substrate and will be delving into live plants. I'm so excited I'm giggly ! I'll take pictures along the way and in a few weeks might be able to post them (someone will need to advise how though). I'm thrilled to join AA (never thought I'd ever say that lol).
