my horned ones sometimes crawl over plant leaves too. my larger nerites never leave the glass or large decorations if they can avoid doing so.

What substrate does your tank have?

In my experience healthy nerites very rarely detach and flip from the surface they are on, and if they do they right themselves with ease.

I suspect that an underlying health issue may be affecting your nerites, or that the substrate may be too fine (they are hard-surface specialists and have difficulty crawling over stuff like sand)

I love the color of nerites, but it is a pain they don't reproduce in freshwater.

Brotia pagodula and thiara winteri are some really cool snails that do though.

Yes, the little pink fish you normally stick in oscar tanks and have them disappear in a few minutes.

They are a colorful form of the North American native fathead minnow, and will survive all seasons outdoors.

I've got a thriving colony going with minimal effort for 3 years now. And they only grow to 3 inches or so.

a small light to just illuminate the brood so the parents can better defend them against any nocturnal marauders.

the fry tend to stay low, but I'd cover the aquaclear intake with a sponge just in case.

I'd worry more about the other rams. from my experience the pair are (as cichlids go) fairly laidback with non-conspecifics but become very vicious towards other rams.

saw some small snakeheads labeled "rainbow snakehead" at franco's aquarium in calgary a month or so ago, so they certainly still are sold in alberta.

had positive experiences with multiple aquaclears in terms of noise levels.

So I've been searching for honey gouramis for a long time. Just yesterday I was at big als and asked them whether they could special order any for me, and they said that that was not possible due to a new law that was passed under which honey gouramis and a whole bunch of other fish including guppies were illegal to bring into canada. It's the first time I've ever heard of that before.

What is up with this law? Why would they do so? Does anyone know a list of species that are banned?

In my 65 gallon tank, about 2/3 of the water's surface need to be cleared of frogbit every 5 days or so. Blankets the tank so that without thinning every few days, high light plants won't be able to grow. If all conditions are right and it is thriving, it is an extremely good remover of nitrates. I have 21 white clouds, 10 panda cories, 7 bolivian rams, 15 endlers, 7 otos and one honey gourami in the mentioned tank, and once when I tried not changing the water for 3 weeks nitrates still read 0 at the end of that time.

If it is a Malaysian trumpet snail, then when you see one there likely are 50 more.

Try stirring up your gravel or shining a flashlight into your tank one hour often lights out.

I can't answer whether they eat hydra, but they did not breed uncontrollably for me, nor do they eat other snails(even when hungry).

However, they loved to eat plants, including those normally regarded as inedible like java ferns.
