  1. Inexplicable increase of algae in my tanks always reminds me to change the light bulbs. After changing they slowly dwindle away again.
  2. Not living in edmonton, but in calgary most garden centres will have papyrus as a pond plant when spring comes, so unless you are hurrying, checking out the garden centres ins spring could be an option
  3. personally I think it just sounds like one has claimed the entire tank and is not tolerating the other, but time will tell.
  4. unlike most tropical fish bettas are sold when mature, not as juveniles. they also don't spend all their young lives in those tiny cups either, that's just for shipping, other transport and display in stores.
  5. I am not too sure but my gut feeling says that your stocking is already close to the limit, depending on the species that you haven't listed the exact amounts. If you however are able to keep your nitrates consistently below 20 ppm, some way or the other, then I would recommend looking into a peaceful larger centerpiece fish, as you already have lots of schoolers. peaceful gouramis or dwarf cichlids such as rams are the first things that come to mind for me. maybe put your apistogramma cacatuoides in the main tank and see how it works out?
  6. Hello from Calgary! I've been keeping fish for quite a while now and have some experience in planted tanks and communities. I really like how "close to home" this forum is!
