  1. About a month ago I purchased a dozen 1 inch Jaguar cichlids from Spenser Jack, The biggest two are now 3 and 4 inch, saturday I noticed these two were exceptionally aggressive( even for a Jag). This morning I see about 200 eggs! Has anyone else seen them breed this small? All the others I've kept in the past havn't spawned till they were about 6 or 7 inches long.

    Is this normal?

  2. Great choice, I currently keep Parachromis Managuensis, be prepared to set up single species tank as they do not play well with others! They can be tank busters, so heavy decorations are a danger, I've found the Jaguars do best with a sand substrate, no plants as they a diggers. All I have in my tanks is sand and a large clay pot. When breeding(and they do easily and often)mine will push all the sand on one end of the tank into a pile clearing right to the glass bottom

  3. Well, after nearly a week in their new home, the loisellie's finally started showing off and staying still long enough to get a few pictures. I can't believe how fast these are growing! when i brought them home on Saturday, 8 of the 10 were under an inch long. Now they are all close to 1.5 inches with the larger 2 close to 2.5 inches. Unfortunately they are still very shy and don't pose well yet. This should improve as they are safely housed in a 60g in a high traffic area

As always I'm looking for breeding pairs,Once sexes are determined beyond a shadow of a doubt,Dean and Quinn will have first pick of the extra's. On that note Dean,I will happily house any extra dovii you end up with

  4. The concern I would have with spreading silicone would be having the fish find a stray piece to chew on,essentially pulling the plug on the tank!

I've been considering building a large plywood tank and one thought I had for sealing it was a spray in liner like armaguard or rhino etc. I'm not sure what the cost would be though.

  5. What did you get th Mota's to eat? I have crushed NLS, but they wouldn't take it,they did seem to go for frozen brine shrimp though, and at least 1 of them snacked on some convict wigglers! I think out of the 10, only 2 are over an inch long, and not by much! I think it's a great idea to share fish so any "spare" Loisellei are definitely ear marked for you. We should get our fish air miles cards, they are sure well traveled!!

    Thanks again

    Denis

  6. "Electric Blue Dovii"??, I'm jealous. I bought 6 juvie Dovii in Calgary a few weeks ago and not one of shows any color yet,let alone color like yours show Dean

On a less jealous note, I made it up to Edmonton yesterday and picked up my order of 10 parachromis loisellei "la Ceiba",these things are TINY!, I will post some pictures when they get settled in,(and get close enough to the glass).

I also picked up the "Freddies" Albertan left for me, Absolute Beauties!, you've all seen the pics. Dean posted of them,They are much nicer up close. All three are settling in nicely, Colored up lots since last night, lots of yellow :smokey:

I also "accidentally" bought Quinns female Jaguar  (over 10 inches long?) Although the "Freddies" & "Jag" were not part of the fishfarm order,I think they're worth mention anyway.

  7. Quinn,I had a "jaguar" with a very similar injury/infection under one eye, turns out he had a piece of dorsal spine from his "girlfriend" stuck in from his mouth outwards, once I pulled it out,50% water change every third day with salt added and it cleared up in just over a week, the scarring lasted a lot longer though.Check to see if he has anything in the wound.

    Good luck

    Denis

  8. The white eggs are unfertilized, you don't have to do anything for the others, the parents should take care of everything. If your water temp. and conditions are all good you should have "wigglers" in a couple days.Good Luck

  9. Definitely looking for looking for the "red tiger variant",I'm also interested in Parachromis friedricsthalii for a "180" I have my eyes on

I could give you a nice big male freddie that would do great in a 180. But I'm not sure how I'd get him to you.

    I appreciate the offer,but we're a little far apart
