  1. Any of you use a reef controller? What features do you like and dislike or wish it had?

I'm in the proccess of building one with an Arduino and would love some input.

Right now what I can do is

-full color 1.6" LCD display (decided not to go with 3" touch screen due to wet fingers alot)

-push button control for lcd menus

-net connected for control and real time info from anywhere with internet access

-control upto 16 power outlets On or Off

-schedule when those power outlets turn on and off

-monitor temperature, ambient and water temp

-feed mode (turns off return pump for 5 minutes) or turns off powerheads and return pump if needed

-auto topoff with varius float switches

-RGB light control (so you can have full control over light color)

    -PH monitor

not sure what other probes to add, is ORB or conductivity worth it?

and some of the features I plan to add are

    -wavemaker

    -storm mode

    -clouds

    -moon phases

-even thinking about doing real time weather simulations based on Fiji weather, well just clouds and storms really

  2. I have found various options on phyto, some say its needed for corals and pods to eat, some say it just pollutes the tank. Any of you had good or bad experiences with it?

I just picked some up from Red Coral Aquarium, and I'm not sure how much to add, where to add it, and how often. I was thinking that if I just added it to my refugium it would work well, but I'm starting to really doubt my thinking on that.

  3. Hello from Edmonton.

I've been out of the hobby for a few years. Decided to get back into it, and got the fish adiction again.

I've got a 90 gallon reef setup on the go, just finishing up the cycling. I've had 8 or 9 hermits in there for a few weeks, a couple skunk cleaner shrimp for about a week. Just added a 6 line wrasse this afternoon, he is still hiding :(

I put in some star polyps and a small zoo colony a few days ago. The zoos are doing very well, but the star polyps are just barely coming out so far.

Picked up some pulsing xenia yesterday, they still arent quite fully extended. Also just tracked down some chaeto for the refuge yesterday as well.

My setup is 90 gallon tank, 29 gallon sump with a 15ish gallon refuge.

50 lbs ish of live rock

    50 lbs of dry rock

5x 20lbs bags of Caribsea Bimini Pink live sand

    2x Kessil A150W 10000k special blend leds

    1x Hydor 1150 powerhead

    1x Ocean Stream 1600 powerhead

2x heaters in the sump (150w and 200W I think)

    1x 50w heater in refuge

1x Hydor 1000 mini pico pump going to refuge, gravity feed back to sump

1x t5 light figure on refuge

1x Ehem Compact+ 3000 pump for my main return

1x captive purity 35 Gpd RO for my top off

Right now its all running on an Arduino reef controller system I'm in the midst of working on,it will eventually do wave maker stuff, control the lighting (adding some moon lights soon), run the auto topoff and dossing pumps, display PH, temp, and maybe some other probes as well. I'm just working on the coding now and waiting for a few more bits of electronics and the dossing pumps to arrive.

thats the gist of it. Plus Piles of other misc plumbing parts and what not.

I will take and post some sump, refuge and controller pics when I have the time this week.
