Its amazing what teens/preteens can do when they put in effort! I have a friend who is 13 and manages many tanks (both fw and sw). She has about 10 tanks all together (ranging from a 2 gallon shrimp tank to a 120 gallon center piece )

Thanks. I am looking at skimmers and all equipment I will need so i know how much money I need to spend. Still saving up a little every week. Should have enough and I should be able to start in a few months or maybe next year if I need more time.

So I am looking at getting a mantis shrimp. In its own tank, no fish. 25 gallons is ok for some species I heard. What species can I keep? What do they eat? And anything special they need? What species iis best for a SW newbie? And where in Edmont can I get one?
Thanks!

No corals right now, not into them really. I like SW fish more then FW right now and I always have. Maybe in the future.

So I am cleaning out a like-new 25 gallon I have. I LOVE salt water fish and I want some. I have a 10 gallon and a 25 gallon tank. I want to use the 10 gallon for breeding something like guppies or shrimp and the 25 gallon for salt water. How can I make a affordable salt water tank? I have salt for marine tanks and I buy it a lot as I keep land hermit crabs and they need SW for proper health. I buy the fuval sea brand right now. What do I need for a basic tank? And how much should it cost? I am looking at getting a mantis shrimp or some marine hermits. Just collecting advice :0

Just gonna say this, I own land hermit crabs and they can live up to 50+ years in wild. Range from marble to softball in sizes. The golf ball or larger hermit crabs in stores are at least 10 years old

Oh great, my dad set up the fish tank already. Using a whisper internal filter that we had from a while ago. Going to see if we can switch filters

I don't really like sponge filters. I can shell out some more money for a HOB as they seem the best. Are HOBs very noisy?

This is OT but, I read that as "Hordor" fans. I think I have been watching to much Game of Thrones

I am looking at the aquaclear filters, are they very good?

Recently i went to big al's here in edmonton. They were renovating and i noticed all the tanks on the wall have been taken down. I asked the manager there what they were gonna do with them. Long story short picked up a 110g 5footer for $20. This was maybe 2 weeks ago. When i saw they still had 3 or so left, so if you're lucky maybe they'll have some left and you can score one too. Mind you they had 2 holes drilled on the tops of the tanks on the back for their filtration but nothing a couple pieces of glass and silicone won't cover.
If you want a small tank, you need to add your name on the list. They are changeing ALL the tanks to newer ones I think. 30 gallon tanks for about $5...

I am doing a 10 gallon crayfish tank (no heater needed! Yay!) so I am wondering, what brand of filter is best? Something they can't climb up, and is affordable. Under $20 preferably, that way I can buy this fancy stuff I want for my other animals that is very pricey. I am on a budget, I have everything I need to start cycleing, besides the filter. What brand is best? And where can I buy it in Edmonton (south end please).

9 hours isnt THAT long. Its not that bad TBH. They should be fuine

I think you can buy that at the Micheals craft store. Near the paint section, there is a wall of spray paints.

Any other time of year? Just wanna know... for reasons

Anyone know where i can get one right now? Under $10 though..

Okay, the moss ball was bleached with a %50 water %50 bleach mix and then cleaned in old tank water. I used distilled water while cleaning it. I am trying to "cover" the bottom of the tank with the moss so it is anchored to the bottom with a piece of reptile bio-vine.

Great, marimo balls are easy to care for in my tank so I think they will like it. I have hermit crabs that like to go in and out of the tank so I hope it works for me.

I am going to Big Al's today to pick up a marimo moss ball (well... two of them... one for my 3g and one for an experiment) so I will try an find a nice filter there. HAS to be internal or sponge

Okay, do RCS benefit from any thing? Maybe a marimo moss ball? Seeing the cold water needs I think that is good . Can I keep ot
Unfiltered? My sponge filter didn't work. I use a turke baster to remove dirt once every 2 to 3 days. I need to wait a few weeks unil o can get a filter. Is a tetra internal filter for 2.5 gallon tanks good? I could place a thingnove the intake to prevent the shrimp from getting sucked in. The water isn't more then 8 inches deep :-|.

Thanks! My water tested at about 70f right now. Using digital of course. I am going to add two marimo balls and a piece of drift wood. One will
Be attached to drift wood I possible . I think my RCS will like it this way!

I am helping a friend set up a 50 gallon sea horse tank so I put the SW tank on the side. Its not set up yet, if I can handle the seahorses I should be able to handle a mantis shrimp.
