  1. Sounds like Purple Passion Danios (Danio roseus) to me. I had some too. Check out Badmans tropical fish, they have a pic of them on there. I find these guys have a high ummm... suicide rate. If they can find a way out they will jump! My other danios never did, but these guys were determined to find a way out. Hope this helps Tammy
  2. I am going on to the B.C. coast for a week to see family, when I get back I'll see what I can do...I think it is going to be a trial and error kind of experiment. I haven't done anything brackish or salt water yet. Tammy
  3. I recently bought 4 Amano Shrimp. Turns out to be 2 female, 2 Male. All 4 have moulted 2x and I have found clumps of eggs in the tank. It appears they keep moving the eggs. I know you need high brackish water to hatch/raise the babies and I want to know how to go about this. I have found a few sites with detailed directions but I am an idiot and have no clue on how to measure the salinity. My questions are: #1- Can I use plain aquarium salt? And is this the same as Instant Ocean Salt? ( I told you I was an idiot!) lol #2- How do I measure salinity? #3- Would an airstone/ sponge filter be enough to sustain the babies or would I need something a little more advanced? #4-Has anyone else tried to raise the babies? I am curious as to personal experiences- do's and dont's Cherry shrimp are sooooo much easier! LOL Thanks in advance! Tammy
  4. It really depends on the Betta. I had one in with Neons (almost full size) and he gave up alright...after he had eaten 3 of em. I moved him into the Discus tank...and he was moved 6 days later as he chased the Discus (full grown) until he had them huddled under driftwood! Mind you, he was only aggressive towards the light colored Discus, left the blues alone. Tammy
  5. That is also the weekend of the Calgary Aquarium Society Tropical Fish Show and Auction...gotta check that out! Montgomery Community Hall: 5003 - 16 Avenue NW Calgary, Alberta October 6 & 7, 2007
  6. Hi all, I have 4 Dojo Loaches...I think 1 female and 3 males. The female has a nice round belly and 1 of the males is swimming in sync with her all over the tank...looks like water ballet! Male is winding his body around her occasionally. I am assuming this is breeding behaviour but can't find anything online about breeding them. Anyone with knowledge on breeding Dojos? They are in a 25G tank with lots of water flow. 78 degrees F, they are about 5-6 inches long. Heavily planted tank. Thanks in advance. Tammy
  7. It's no big deal, no worries. I was just curious as to why. Thanks for checking around on your end though, I appreciate it. Tammy
  8. LOL Great! It figures...I am running behind as always -roll-
  9. I have done that...it was all correct, I haven't touched anything in there so I dunno. Thanks Tanker. It's still an hour behind. I am posting this at 9:40pm and the time posted on my page says Today, 08:39 PM Tammy
  10. My computer shows the correct time... but when I post, it shows the posted time as an hour behind. Weird. I am signed in when posting... Tammy
  11. Hello, I read the pinned topic on time from last year, was wondering if it has happened again? It appears the time on the forum is an hour behind the actual time. Is there anything I can do on my end to fix this? Tammy
  12. What part of Calgary are you in? I have lots of tanks = lots of filter media.
  13. Are you using something to remove the chlorine from the water when you do water changes? What exactly are the "fancy drops" you are adding? Is the water you add to the tank approx the same temp as the water you took out? Need some more info to help out your little buddy. Tammy
  14. Mine has been running fine now since I posted the other day. So far everything looks good. Tammy
  15. I am having the same issue as everyone else...thought it was because I had a new computer...guess not lol! Tammy
  16. My breeding male was so mean when they had eggs/fry he ripped holes in any net I put in there...but someone had to control the amount of babies those 2 had! 20G, eggs, 9 day old fry and 1 day free swimmers all at the same time! Tammy
  17. Sorry to hear about your loss...clowns are just so loveable! RIP Tammy
  18. I am sad to say I lost Beau today. He was the first Betta I owned and was my very favorite (and I have had alot of Bettas!) I am not sure how old he was but I have had him almost 2 years. Really cool personality, loved to eat bloodworms from my fingers...RIP Beau! Tammy
  19. This should be good...glad my landlady isn't part of this site! 75+75+72+65+50+45+42+42+42+33+29+25+25+25+20+10+10+5+5=695 Huh...not as bad as I thought!
  20. Well, we finally have super melons with new fry. Still wrigglers...about a day from free swimming. Very excited! This is in regular aged Calgary water...no R/O. I know they won't last long though, they are in a community tank with Khulis, Clowns and Rasbora...not to mention 4 other Discus but awesome parents...nobody will go near em...even the 4" Clown Loach is hiding! I am prepping a tank for them and their next batch this weekend. Yeah!!! Tammy
  21. I can totally sympathize with you! I usually put a few shrimp pellets or NSL wafer in a net and set it close to their hang out...mine are food hogs and will come flying out and before they realize it...they are netted! Seeing as you already emptied the tank of deco though...just get 2 of the biggest nets you have and corner them...the bigger the net the better! Use one net to "round em up" and the other to catch the speedy little buggers! Good luck with that! Hope this helps! Tammy
  22. I wouldn't put a crayfish in with either of those fish. If you are set on having a cray in there, go with something cheap and fast, Danios or Tetras. Danios would probably be better as they, for the most part, stay in the top 1/3 of the tank. As for the cray escaping, I covered the back area with tinfoil and it worked for me. Hope this helps. Tammy
  23. I have 8 Bristle nose plecos 3 Albino Bristle nose plecos 5 Sterbai cories 5 Albino cories 4 bronze cories 1 Clown pleco Tammy
  24. I have put rams with a few different fish. I find that hatchets are a good fish with rams as rams inhabit the lower third of the tank and hatchets are top dwellers...better have a good cover though as hatchets are jumpers! I have put rasboras, cardinal tetras, angels, discus and clown loaches with them with no real issues except the loaches ate the rams eggs. Be sure to have a well established tank(running for at least 6 months) for the rams as they can be difficult to keep. Temp wise, I have mine at 82 and they are happy and healthy...add some driftwood and plants as it will keep any bickering to minimum. Hope this helps. Tammy
  25. No, it's not dropsy or anything noticable other than a swollen belly, gasping at surface and not eating.
