  1. Big update !!!

The hairgrass has really taken off, I wasn't adding enough CO2 so I had to tweak. I'm still fighting with a little algae but nothing some excel and a toothbrush can't handle.

I will be adding the apex moonlights very soon as they are in the mail.

    Added:

    11 Rummy nose

    20 Black neon

    10 Cardinal

  2. Playing the the idea of moonlighting but since I use kessil I have to be creative with them.. Since I use an apex controller they have a system but it is just loose leds designed for a canopy more or less.

I used a 24inch led to just test the look with. I think I like it what about you ?

  3. A pic right before a clean up and water change ! The tank has finally cycled.

Just added 5 Amano shrimp a couple of days ago to make sure everything is good and also I'm fighting with algae so I'm getting a clean up crew tomorrow.

  4. Nice tank, but hope ur diffuser is enough for ur tank.

I have an Ada pollen glass beetle 40, I was using the other one just to pump some more CO2 in the drystart.

The tank has been filled and I will update with a picture tomorrow.

  5. Well I finally had the chance to work on the tank so here is an update... I finally made up my mind on a layout hope you like. I have shadow under the main stone so I might have to pickup one more kessil but I don't mind it but the flora may not. I can see the white on the stone much better in person than a picture.

    Flora: Eleocharis acicularis 'mini'

  6. I have a big issue with my carbon block and I have switched it out multiple times and after a couple of days it looks like this. It looks like its rusting.. The sediment block is perfect no rust or anything getting into the unit. The PH coming out is super low and I have no idea what is going on.. TDS is 0. Anyone have an idea what the issue is ???

  7. Sorry everyone been super busy as of late and have not had the chance to update or work on the 120p. During my honeymoon we where lucky enough to visit Japan and got the chance to see some of Takashi Amano tanks in person. During my adventures with my new tank I have been fighting with the layout and my wife asked me why don't you make it look like the aquariums we saw in Japan.. So 43kg of Manten stone later here we go with a Iwagumi. Give me some ideas with the placement I'm no Takashi Amano. Also updated the gear as I have purchased the rest of everything I needed.

  8. Nice, you should check to see if the lids will fit with the dual filters on opposite sides. My 75-P and 60-H (45) lids are pretty tight fits with only an inlet and outlet on one sdie.

They don't properly fit unfortunately, I knew the second I put the first one on the tank. I have a work around that I use I just need to be careful when removing the top.

  9. I noticed you didn't have an ATO on your list; if you want small and less noticeable, have a look at the Smart ATO. If you want one with a back up float sensor, try a Tunze. I have an Avast Marine in the sump of my reef system which works great with my Apex but the back up float might be too big to have in a display tank.

How many heads do you need for your doser? Neptune has theirs but it's only 2 heads. Jebao makes one with 4 heads and is only $100 USD.

Yeah I was thinking about adding an ATO but wanting more space in the stand for the doser and storage.

Neptune is nice but for price and only two heads I have passed on it. I'm thinking about picking up a Jebao.. four heads and for a good price.

  10. Just starting a new tank and I thought I would share with AA the whole process.

  11. glosso always kicks @$$

    +1

I am a low maintenance guy when it comes to mosses (they grow too fast for me to keep up with pruning) so I prefer something like mini pellia (coral moss) myself but than again I am more of a minimalist when it comes to the decor in my shrimp tank. Just make sure all the rocks we use are 100% inert or else it will exhaust the buffering ability ofyour Aqua Soil (assuming that is what you are using) fairly quickly

My other crs tank is also very simple so I thought I would do something fancy this time. Manten stone was surprisingly expensive... This my first try with ADA aqua soil I'm hoping it works out well as I hear many good things about it.

  12. Starting a new CRS tank. Aquascaping currently but this is my favorite setup so far. I was thinking of going all mosses this time. I have weeping moss, flame moss and Japan fissidens to use already.

I was maybe thinking of adding a carpet of moss or cheat and use a plant like dwarf hairgrass. Any comments or ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

  13. Looks good. With a tall tank imo height for landscape is needed. A tall piece of knarly wood is the way to go.

Why so long for a drystart?

Yea the tall tank was an issue because I was wanting a Iwagumi layout, I had to get the cube do to space and the volume of water I wanted. I did have this wood in the layout at one point I'm still thinking about adding it back but the torri gate wont stay. I could have filled well before I wasn't in a rush to get it all going due to work.
