  1. Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone knows where to get 'scrap' pieces of glass for a euro brace. I have a 55 standard size, 48 x 12" and I had to replace the plastic trim. Noone in the city has one in stock, and if I order one I can't take it back. It's an older tank so I don't think a new brace will fit anyways as its 3/8" glass. So I'm looking for 3 pieces of 3/8"; 12 3/4" long by 3"ish wide.

If you know someone, or have some spare glass, please let me know!

    Thanks

  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Percilus, you will have a jungle on your hands soon enough lol hope the beta loves them.

That's what I was kinda thinking. I wanted to build something around a group of crypts, like you suggested. Just the 3 pc top section of the structure is glued, so I have 4 good size slabs to work with. Maybe stack some on an angle out of the sand and build up around it with some wood.... good thinking. :) attached is the photo as of tonight.

    Thanks guys!

  3. Hey there all,

So, I think my 55 needs a face lift. Its the main focal point in the room as soon as you walk into the house. All the plants there have matured and doubled and some of the stock has changed. There is something off about the scape and I can't quite put my finger on it..... So, time for a change. Currently there is crypts, dwarf sag, vals, water lettuce and my favorite, the red lotus. I'm a fan of the wood in there, interesting shaped pieces. I like the idea of the slate but I think it needs some adjustments or reshaping because I don't think it quite matches the 'feel' of the tank. (The background is changing as well, it's going black)

I was thinking of moving the lotus to the front, just off center to show it off. The vals I will probably move the whole bunch off to one back side because they spread so fast and grow quite tall. The crypts don't quite grow as tall as I thought they would, so I'll prolly have to keep them mid-ground also somewhere. The sag I can plunk out in front and fill some gaps. Running 2 canister filters as well, so uptake tubes are an eyesore.

Here is my main goal; I was hoping to figure out a way to incorporate the slate with the wood so they kind of blend together instead of being distinctly separate as they are now. I do have a couple other smaller pieces of wood and more slate for adjustments. I think it will look to manufactured to move a piece of wood to each side of the tank, but they are also too different to place really close together.

I need to keep a couple of cave-like spaces as my pleco and shark share the slate at the moment and the other 2 plecos have each claimed the wood.

If anyone has some advice, ideas or constructive criticism that would be great. As some of you can relate, my other half doesn't share the love of the hobby so he really isn't helpful in the aquascaping process lol!

    Thanks Team!

  4. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input! I have added another dose of salt last night and increased to 84F. As far as I could tell, with the lights off, The tetra has lost it's cysts. I haven't added any fish for about 3 weeks, and the last order I got was from a man on this forum, and his imports are quarantined so I don't think I picked it up from them. Just a weird freak attack I guess, I may have stresses them when I did a water change and forgot to plug the heater back in? I had previously read your post Jayba, thanks for the descriptive read! :) So, that being said, if the cysts fell off yesterday, I will maintain the heat with another dose of salt, for another week just to be safe.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi guys,

I have been reading through endless threads and webpages about the proper dosing of aquarium salt for ICH, as I would prefer a natural remedy as opposed to chemicals. I notices my black skirt tetra had 3 cysts on it 2 days ago. I researched all my inhabitants again to determine the effects of salt on them and their temperature ranges. It seems they can all handle the heat as well as the salt so I slowly starting ramping the temperature that day, and yesterday it was holding at 83.3F. I have cories, plecos SAEs, tetras, rams, hatchetfish and amano shrimp in a 55 planted tank running an Rena XP3 as well as an Eheim Pro3 with weekly water changes. The problem is I have seen everything from 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons to 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon and I am surely confused. So, to be on the safe side, I had added 0.5 tablespoons per 10 gallons thus far over 6 hours premixed with aquarium water. Should I be bumping up the dose to 1 tbsp. per 5 gal, as this seems to be in the mid-range for all I have read?

    Thanks so much!

  6. Hi Beverly!

The sand I bought was the Hawaiian white sand. It's a natural looking beige color, it's a bit lighter than the color on the Burnco website. I wish I had enough to sell you, I had it is the box of my truck, some blew away and the rest I had to leave on a curb cause I was helping my friend move and I needed the space for her stuff lol! But for less than $4 bucks, it wasn't a heartbreak. I'd say a 5G pail would be more than enough for a 75G, I used 2/3 of a pail and I have about 1-2" sand bed in my 55G.

    • I currently have 2 dwarf gouramis, one is a flame and the other is in between a fire and a powder blue. I had them in a 55, and never noticed any aggression... I just recently set up a 90 gallon with floating plants, thinking everyone would be happy and overjoyed with their new big home! Unfortunately, the only ones not happy are the gouramis. The flame chases the other one relentlessly, more often than the reverse. I am actually going to relocate the bluish one to my other tank where he can be alone.
