  1. Like to say thanks Calgary Aquarium Society always enjoy myself at these.

OK back on topic of the auction Sunday how did people do?I picked up a red tiger lotus at very good $ at the beginning when most weren't paying attention, and a trio of M.boesemani Lake Aytinjo.

Third time at these auctions and I do enjoy them. I believe most people were affected by the time change. I know I was struggling to stay awake. Picked up plants, shrimp and MTS. Looking forward to the next one in April.

  2. It depends on how well it's been treated would be my guess. I have a 29 made in 2000 and so far so good. However, I recently picked up a 50 (year???) where I found sand particles behind the silicone which I'll be resealing later (it still held water but I feel more comfortable if I resealed it). IMO, if significant parts of the silicone no longer sticks to the glass but not to the point of leakage then it's days are numbered.

  3. Went there at Noon and took advantage of their 2-for-1 sale of freshwater fish. It's much smaller and the aisles are narrower which means fewer selection. I don't see any tanks for big fish such as the Arowanas unless there is another section that was closed off (i.e. under construction). All new tanks and I over heard that the old tanks will be sold (whenever they are done with the move). The only annoyance is that they've stacked the tanks 4 high where it may be difficult to see if you're vertically challenged.

  4. ...As for silicone, get csc 1200...The best price for it is Calgary Fastener at something like $6.00 a tube. The LFS is easily double the price...

I wish I knew this before I bought half a dozen of them.

What is a rough price to do a diy 75 gallon tank normal size?

Unless you want Starfire glass, I believe it's cheaper to just buy a 75G tank from BigAl's or surf Kijiji for one.

  5. For those that wish to use black silicone, I've been using this with no problems. Pisces Pet Emporium in Calgary and Pets and Ponds (a Canadian online retailer from Ontario) sells them. However, it's much more expensive. One tube of this is equivalent to 2 to 3 tubes of GE Silicone 1 (not 2) for Window/Door/Attic/Basement form your local hardware store. Make sure you get the screw on tip as shown in picture.

  6. Thanks for the Welcome.

Hello, what kind of fish are you keeping?

Goldfish. It started out with my niece that got bored with her goldfish and inherited a Common and Comet, the survivors. Now, I have 3 fancy goldfish and 3 fantails in addition to the two which really needs to go into bigger tanks but my fish room is in the design stages...for the past two years. I'm putting more effort this year  to actually build the fish room (New Year's Resolution). I'm looking at planted tanks with lots of Neon Tetras but holding off until I get my fish room built.
