  4. Wild Type Bee Shrimp (Caridina venusta / Paracaridina zijinica?) This is a wild type bee shrimp from southern china; one of several species often sold as bumblebee shrimps. We are not 100% on the id but others have id them as either Caridina venusta or Paracaridina zijinica (formerly Caridina meridionalis) They are similar to Crystal Red / Crystal Black shrimps in that they have 3-4 coloured bands with a white / clear body. The colour of the bands are usually dark brown / black but can also be dark blue or reddish brown. They require similar parameters to CRS / CBS but as with most wild type bee shrimps, they require cooler temperatures (under 22C) If you are interested in wild type bee shrimps, we highly recommend Breeders n' Keepers China Special which has extensive coverage of wild type shrimps found in southern China.

  8. Sun (Horned Nerite) Snails One of our favourite type of Horned Nerite snails. They stay small, don't reproduce in freshwater and and won't touch your plants. They are one of the best algae eaters for hard algae and mineral deposits on the glass and other hard surfaces. Sun snails have two distinct patterns on their shells; on one side they have a textured olive green / grey pattern (like that of an elephant trunk) and on the other side the pattern spiral towards an apex with recessed yellow "rays". The "horns" rises up along the perimeter of these two patterns As with most snails, they require neutral to high pH.
  9. Cherax pulcher sp 'Hoa Creek' The recently classified Cherax species from Indonesia is one of the most stunning and colorful crayfish species. The Carapace and parts of the abdomen are bright pink color to purple. The claws is an intense blue with a white patch on the side and black tips. Hoa Creek are a relatively peaceful crayfish and will leave most shrimps and small, surface dwelling fish alone. While not as territorial as other crayfish, they still need plenty of hiding spots and other areas where they can retreat to. They are great diggers and will dig their own holes under rocks and other structures. They will uproot most plants in the process so they are not suited for planted tanks. Temperature: 20° - 28° C Hardness: > 5 ° dGH Ph: 6.5 - 8.5 Size: Hoa creek are a medium size crayfish, reaching sizes up to 5" or more. Sexing: Usually males have a transparent patch or "bubble" on the outside of the claws but not always the case. Otherwise can be sex the standard way when it comes to Cherax; Females will have gonospores which on the 3rd pair of legs will males have them on the 5th pair of legs Food: Omnivorous, prefer plant / vegetable based foods. We feed our with Shrimp King Peas & green loops, fresh baby spinach, and regular stable food. They love eating Indian almond leaves as well! Recommended Tank Size: 90cm for a pair, 120cm for 2 pairs or more - make sure each individual have their own cave / retreat. As with all crayfish, aquarium will need to be well covered. DO NOT MIX with North American crayfish in the same tank! Cherax species like Hoa Creek are very susceptible to the crayfish plague that north american species are a carrier for. Even if you keep them in separate tanks, do not mix equipment between tanks

  13. Hi Samcro, Best way is to use cotton thread or fishing line. Thinner cotton thread will fall apart after some time so you might need to tied them back down if they haven't attach themselves to the rocks. With fishing line you cut them off after they attached to the rocks. You want to be careful that it is tight enough to keep the rhizome attached to the rocks but not too tight; rhizome for buce are more fragile than those of java ferns, Anubias etc; You can also use glue but I am not a big fan since it seems to impede the development of new roots in the section where they are glued, at least they was my experience.
  14. Took me a while to fish these guys out of their tank for a photo shoot, but I finally manage to grab some shots of those gorgeous crayfish from Indonesia. Introducing the newly classified Cherax pulcher 'Hoa Creek'. Not as nice as ones that Chris Lukhaup documented but just happy get some in Canada! Will probably released a couple of pairs for sale (if i can catch them!) but looks like I already have a bit of a waiting list for them! More info on them here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2015/05/14/the-newest-crayfish-species-looks-like-a-lisa-frank-creation/

And of course, it had to come at a great price! We are proud to announce we have found our float valve! 16. We just got some Cryptocoryne albida 'Brown' from Tropica - a nice looking new crypt with narrow, wavy leaves. Would look great in a shrimp tank or with hardscape From Tropica' page: This little Cryptocoryne comes from Asia, and grows naturally in for instance Thailand. The narrow, red-brown leaves have clear, black patterns and beautifully waving leaf edges. Each leaf grows to be about 1-3 cm wide and up to 15 cm long, giving the plant a light and graceful look, which is easy to combine with other plants inside the aquarium, enabling beautiful contrasts. Like many other Cryptocorynes, it is able to grow under must conditions and can thrive at even very poor light conditions. However, it will only grow very slow under such conditions. Name: Cryptocoryne albida 'Brown' Type: Rosulate Origin: Asia Difficulty: Easy Growth rate: Slow Height: 5 - 15+ Light demand: Low CO2 : Low
  17. New shipment just came in! Plant list updated with new stock and refills
  18. We just got in a bunch shrimps including a few lesser known Caridina Babaulti varieties from India. Fire Red Shrimps (restock) Green Babaulti Shrimps (restock) Black / Brown Babaulti Shrimps Indian Zebra Shrimps (Striped Babaulti) Ninja Shrimps Blue Bee Shrimps Tangerine Tiger Shrimps They are all currently undergoing quarantine and should be ready to go within a week or so! Caridina Babaulti Shrimps I always been a fan of wild type shrimps and the Caridina Babaulti complex has been around in the hobby for a very long time. They quite hardy (almost as hardy as neo's) but never really caught on as they are not as colourful as neo's or bee shrimps. But unlike the various coloured neo types, you can keep them together with neo and bee shrimps without worry about them interbreeding with either one. Babaulti shrimps are also neat because they can change their colour based on their mood or to blend in with their background. They also tend to be a bit more shy than most neo's or bee shrimps as they to like to hide amongst the plants and driftwood. They will breed in freshwater and generally have much bigger batches but small eggs compared to neo's or bee shrimps. As such newborn babaulti shrimplets are smaller and will take a while to mature. I received some large adults with this shipment, with some females green babaulti shrimp close to 3cm or ever over. There is a chance that some of are in fact "Dark Green" or "Neon Green" shrimps which is a separate species from the same region Indian Zebra Shrimps These guys tend to stand smaller than the other babaulti shrimps but I also find they are more active and less shy. They have black/brown vertical bands across their either body. Most of are clear but some may have brownish bodies. Ninja Shrimp A shy species that is rarely out in the open. Body colour range from red to black with white bands. Like Babaulti shrimps, will change their colour to blend in with their surroundings. Require brackish water to breed.
  19. Fairly easy; I can ship via UPS express for around $20-25. Usually gets there next day around noon. I also make frequent trips up there - usually at least once a month. When i do, I can meet up or drop them off on the way into the city at no charge.
