  1. Thank-you Ron and Megan, In the past I always felt a bit guilty ordering all those products for myself but now that I get to share it with everyone I felt less guilty - but I still feel bad about how much of the Benibachi stuff was for myself on the first order.. but so happy now that I was able to get Bee MAX in... Benibachi USA was the only guys in North America who was willing to bring it in but they disappeared a while back. Can't wait to get my new rack setted up so I can start on "Phrase 2" : )

  3. We are an official ADA dealer and stock select ADA products for your shrimp tanks. ADA Aqua Soil is our substrate of choice for all of our soft water dwarf shrimp tanks. It helps buffers and maintain the low pH require by many shrimps such as Crystal Red / Crystal Black Shrimps and Taiwan Bees. Aqua Soil Amazonia should suffice for most applications however Africana can be used in whole or mixed with Amazonia to achieve lower pH levels. Ideally for soft water shrimps you want an pH of 6.8 or lower. Please note that Amazonia will slowly leach ammonia into your tank for the first month or so. When using new Amazonia let the tank fully cycle for at least 4-6 weeks before adding shrimps. Most of our current tanks contain a mixture of Aqua Soil Amazonia and Africana. We use re-mineralized RO water in all our tank and the pH is usually around 5.4-6.0 in those tanks. Using RO water will greatly extend the life of your Aqua Soil. We like to using the Powder type to top off most of our tanks - this help prevent the baby shrimps from falling in between the granules of the regular Aqua Soil and also gives the soil a nice even appearance. Bacter 100, Tourmaline BC and Penac-W are all substrate additives that can be added the bottom of tank below the Aqua Soil when setting up a new tank. It help seed a new tank with bacteria, improve water quality and stabilizes the substrate system over the long term. Bacter Ball is a sphere shape substrate additive made from Bacter 100. Shrimps love munching on it whenever it is added to the tank ADA Product List Aqua Soil - New Amazonia (3l) - $16.95 Aqua Soil - New Amazonia (9l) - $39.95 Aqua Soil Powder - New Amazonia (9l) - $69.95 Aqua Soil - Africana (9l) - $34.95 Bacter 100 (100g) - $21.95 Bacter Ball (18pcs) - $23.95 Tourmaline BC (100g) - $21.95 Penac-W 200g (Aquarium) - $41.95
  4. Benibachi is a well known breeder of high quality Crystal Red / Crystal Black shrimps in Japan. They have an extensive line-up of food and additives and have quite a following globally. I have used many of their products for years and they are among my favourites. We are proud to stock the largest selection of Benibachi products in Canada! Below is our current Benibachi product list. Our notes are in italics. Feel free to post any questions you have below FOOD BENIBACHI Kale Tablets 30g - $16.95 Benibachi Kale Tablets is a high quality crystal shrimp food made from 100% organic kale which is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin, and reasonably rich in calcium. It improve growth and immune system of the shrimps. Weight: 30g - 120 tablets. A staple in our feeding schedule, and a favourite of our shrimps as well. It comes in a tablet form but dissolves fairly quickly once it is in the water and easily disspense throughout the tank. A great food for shrimps of all ages. The tablet is fairly large so make sure you cut it up into smaller pieces unless you have hundreds of shrimps. Highly recommended! BENIBACHI Shrimp Food 50g - $16.95 Benibachi Shrimp Food (formerly Benibachi Gold Food) is a premium food for caridina species. Made from 100% natural ingredients it boosts both colors and growth. This is the Bee MAX of their food line up and this great for both babies, juvies and young adults. It comes in a pellet form but is actually quite soft and dissolve fairly quickly in the water so baby and juvies don't have to fight their way into the "shrimp ball" that usually forms with other foods. WATER QUALITY / GROWTH ADDITIVES BENIBACHI Breeding Liquid 20ml - $20.95 The BENIBACHI Breeding Liquid is a highly concentrated Chitin-based additive that promotes breeding. Use it when breeding activities is slow in your tank or to promote regular molting. Dosage: - Tank below 45cm 1 times 1 pushes - 60cm with tank 1 times 2 pushes - 90cm with tank 1 times 3 pushes Do not overdose Dosing this into the water will encourage the shrimps to molt if they are ready and cause the males to "dance" as they seek out females who have just molted - generally they can only get berried within a short amount of time after they molt. This will not cause a shrimp to molt if they are not ready however. As such it should not be used no more than once every 2-3 weeks. BENIBACHI Growth Enzyme 100ml - $19.95 Benibachi Growth Enzyme promotes substantial growth of shrimps, the faster they grow, the faster they breed. The growth enzyme also aids plant growth. Dosage: Dose once / week with the following amount:- - 45cm tank (45×30×32) - 15ml - 60cm tank (60×36×30) - 20ml - 90cm tank (90×45×45) - 60ml Benibachi ZERO α - $14.95 The BENIBACHI ZERO α absorbs harmful ammonia, nitrous acid, heavy metal and magnesium from the tap water, making it safe for shrimp keeping. It purifies water quality and controlling the occurrence of the pathogenic bacteria and the algae. It also contains important natural mineral that releases gradually into the aquarium. Usage: Please use it in high flow area, in or outside of the filter. Use 1 pc per 60cm tank. We use these absorbion plates in most of our tanks - not only do they look cool, they safeguard against ammonia and other toxics in the water. Be careful while handling these are they are fragile BACTERIA Bacteria BENIBACHI Bee3 - $12.95 BENIBACHI Bee3 is a mixture of enzyme and chitosan which helps to maintain water quality, promotes growth, coloration and molting of juvenile and adult shrimps. Bee3 can be used on a regular basis to increase clarity of water, or to a point whereby molting improvement is achieved. You can observe that shrimps stop dying during unsuccessful molting. Directions: Use 1 spoon for 60cm tank and 2 spoon for 90cm tank. Add bee3 directly to the tank. Bee3 (and Bee MAX) are general health and bacteria supplement that can be used during inital tank set up (spread it underneath the substrate) or dosed 1-2 times a week. Despite what the instructions above say, it works best when mixed with water and than pour into the tank. Unlike Bee MAX it does not need to be refrigerated after opening. Super Bacteria Bee MAX - 30g - $19.95 - 100g - $42.95 - 1kg - $199.95 (special order) BENIBACHI Super Bacteria BEE MAX is a mixture of enzyme and chitosan (double of Bee3) which helps to maintain water quality, promotes growth, coloration and molting of juvenile and adult shrimps. 7. Salty Shrimp is a German line of mineral salts developed by Frank and Carsten Logemann of Germany to recreate the ideal parameters for various freshwater dwarf shrimps. They are designed to be used with RO water as a re-mineralizer. We currently carry 4 products from their shrimp line in various sizes. Bee Shrimp GH+ Bee-Shrimp Mineral GH+ has especially been developed for the keeping and breeding of bee shrimp, bumblebee shrimp and tiger shrimp in an aquarium, to mineralise RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. It raises the total hardness (°dH) without significantly influencing the carbonate hardness (KH). This is especially important for shrimp originating from softwater habitats (ratio of KH/°dH: 0.06/1.0). Dosage Use Bee-Shrimp Mineral GH+ to re-mineralise RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. to reach a total hardness of about 6 °dH and/or a conductance of about 200 +/- 50 µS (Microsiemens). For this purpose, an evenly full measuring spoon (about 3 g) to 20 litres of water is sufficient. (Measuring spoon enclosed.) We use Bee Shrimp GH+ for most of our soft water shrimps including our CRS / CBS / Taiwan Bee and formerly our OEBT / BTOE (@ 1.5x dosage). Using RO/DI water and using the recommend dosage, the pH remain around 6.4, GH 3-4 and KH 0-1. TDS should be around 100ppm. Available Sizes: 230g (treats approx. 1530 l of aquarium water) 1000g (treats approx. 6660 l of aquarium water) Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+ 230g - $27.95 Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+ 1000g - $43.95 Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ has been especially designed for the preparation of neutral aquarium water for keeping and breeding shrimp. It re-mineralises e.g. RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc., raising total hardness (°dGH) and carbonate hardness (KH) at a ratio of °dGH/KH: 1.0/0.5. Especially shrimp from habitats with a neutral pH do very well in water prepared with this mineral salt. Dosage Use Shrimp Mineral to re-mineralise RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. to reach a total hardness of about 6 °dGH and/or a conductance of about 300 +/- 50 µS (Microsiemens). For this purpose, an evenly full measuring spoon (about 2 g) to 10 litres of water is sufficient. Measuring spoon enclosed. We recently switched over to Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ for our OEBT / BTOE and Neocaridina tanks. Using RO/DI water and using the recommend dosage, the pH is around 7.0, GH ~6 and KH 3. Resulting TDS is around 170ppm. Available Sizes: 200 g (sufficient for approx. 1000 l aquarium water) 850 g (sufficient for approx. 4250 l aquarium water) Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ 200g - $27.95 Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ 850g - $43.95 Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 is the most easily soluble variant of our Sulawesi Mineral scope. It buffers the pH at around 7.5 and serves for mineralising RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 contains all important minerals and trace elements the well-known shrimp species from this region need for their health, wellbeing and colouration. Cardinal shrimp (Caridia dennerli) breeders have been using it very successfully. This mineral salt furthers the microbial regeneration of biological filter substrates. Raises carbonate and total hardness at a ratio of KH/°dH = 0.42/1.0. Less finicky Sulawesi shrimp like the freshwater cardinal shrimp (Caridina dennerli) can be kept and bred with positive outcomes both with Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 and Sulawesi Mineral 8.5. For the more susceptible shrimps we hope to achieve long-term successful breeding by the use of Sulawesi Mineral 8.5, which is practically identical to the water chemistry of Lake Towuti. Of the two Sulawesi minerals, Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 is the easier to use. It mixes fairly well with water (but not as easily as Bee Shrimp GH+ or Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+) - stir it well or use an airstone to mix it completely prior to use. Most lakes in Sulawesi has a PH of 8.0 or higher so most people use Sulawesi 7.5 in conjunction with a buffering substrate such as Aragonite or Crushed Coral to achieve a higher pH. Also check the kH / GH ratio of the lake your shrimps are coming from. Dosage RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. is remineralised with Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 until a hardness of around 6 °dH and/or a conductance of around 270 +/- 40 µS (Mikrosiemens) is reached. This corresponds to a slightly heaped measuring spoon (around 3.5 g) to 15 litres of water. Measuring spoon enclosed. Available Sizes: 250 g (sufficient for approx. 1070 l of aquarium water) 1000 g (sufficient for approx. 4280 l of aquarium water) Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 250g - $27.95 Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 1000g - $43.95 Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 was developed according to the results of a scientific analysis of water originating from the lakes of the Malili lake system on Sulawesi. It serves for mineralising RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. and requires some additional measures for fully dissolving. Water remineralised with this mineral salt will result in an almost exact copy of the water of Lake Towuti and a correspondingly high pH of 8.5, which also serves for greatly reducing pathogens. Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 contains all important minerals and trace elements the well-known shrimp species from this region need for their health, wellbeing and colouration. This mineral salt furthers the microbial regeneration of biological filter substrates and raises carbonate and total hardness at a ratio of KH/°dH = 0.78/1.0. The shrimp originating from Lake Towuti on Sulawesi (e.g. the freshwater harlequin shrimp - Caridina woltereckae -, or the red-banded shrimp - Caridina striata) are still very difficult to breed in captivity. Thus we went to the Ancient Lakes on Sulawesi again in 2011 (after our initial trip in 2008) in order to have a closer look at the conditions in the habitat and to take water samples to have them analysed here. The results of these analyses show fundamental differences of the water chemistry of the Malili Lakes in comparison with generally known types of lacustrian waters. Here we had to completely rework the mineral constellation; the result of these efforts is the salt Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 Most of the Sulawesi Lakes have parameters closer to that of Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 than 7.5 but it can be quite difficult to mix (see below) and thus require more preparation and lead time prior to your water changes. It is however more ideal for more sensitive species and is our mineral of choice for our Sulawesi Shrimps. Instructions of use Add Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 to water outside of your aquarium. It will almost totally dissolve if water is heated (bring to a boil orheat in a microwave) or if CO2 is added for a few days. On regular CO2-Quantity (one bubble per second) the salt dissolved totally into approx. 3-4 days. If you use CO2 to dissolve the mineral salt, please make sure you aerate the water afterwards for at least three hours with an air stone in order to expel the CO2! Afterwards, the water is ready for use. We recommend adapting the temperature of the new water to that in your tank. Please make sure to add any undissolved particles to your tank, too. Close the container after use. Dosage RO water, rainwater, fully desalinated water etc. is remineralised with Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 until a hardness of around 7 °dH and/or a conductance of around 220 +/- 40 µS (Mikrosiemens) is reached. This corresponds to a slightly heaped measuring spoon (around 3 g) to 20 litres of water. Measuring spoon enclosed. Available Sizes: 250 g (sufficient for approx. 1660 l of aquarium water) 1000 g (sufficient for approx. 6660 l of aquarium water) Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 250g - $27.95 Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 1000g - $43.95 Black Water Powder - SE / Fulvic + Black Water Powder is a mixture of valuable trace elements as well as humic and fulvic acids with a multitude of positive effects on your aquarium and its inhabitants. • rich in important trace elements • protects your tank from a dangerous pH drop • reduces algae proliferation • strengthens the immune system of your tank inhabitants • binds to ammonium and reduces the danger of ammonia formation • has a very high cation exchange activity and binds to heavy metals • acts as natural chelator and thus maintains the reduced form of micronutrients and iron • improves growth and promotes reproduction e.g. for bee shrimp • acts as alternative to carbonate buffers and is thus irreplaceable in soft water where carbonate hardness is unwelcome • antibacterial, reduces the bacterial load (of Aeromonas- and Pseudomonas spp.) on internal organs • fungicidal, acts preventative in the case of fungal infections even at low concentrations • has a positive supporting effect on the treatment of inflammatory gill conditions • reduces external hormonal influences and stress induced by them • has a positive effect on necroses of fin edges and gills • plants are provided with a suitable carbon source by metabolisation of its components • makes the water crystal clear The effect of humic acids The manifold positive effects of humic acids are mainly caused by polyphenols, quinons and stable radicals. They further immunity and multiple stress resistency. It is known that humins activate the white blood cells and thus strengthen the immune system, leading to further cellular immune response mechanisms. The influence of humic acids has been proven to increase the lifespan of turquoise killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri) by approx. 15%. A gene expression analysis in Caenorhabditis elegans (a nematode) showed that the genes coordinating life elongation were activated. In particular, various beneficial stress proteins (HSP) were expressed, which have been shown to be beneficial for a longer life and overall resistency. In swordtails (Xiphophorus helleri), experiments with humic acids resulted in a multiple immunity to stress. In zebrafish (Danio rerio), a tendency towards a more positive egg development was noticeable even in water with only a low humic acid concentration. Blackwater fish cannot survive in acidic waters poor in minerals without humic acids. On the other hand, in a water rich in humic acids, the pH does not play that big a role. However, the full range of effects humic acids have has not entirely been researched yet. What we can say for sure is that humins make surfaces adherent and that they neutralise water cohesion. If humins rich in bases adhere to the gill epithels of fish or shrimp they improve osmoregulation and at the same time lower the amount of energy required against a strong water gradient. A less energy-intensive osmoregulation means that there are more resources left for growth and development. Fish are also immunised passively from the outside, as their cell membranes are tanned by protein excretion, which promotes an indirect resistance to pathogens entering the skin. Instructions of use Just sprinkle the desired amount of the powder on the water surface. Black Water Powder dissolves easily in any pH. Please note that the water will assume a brownish colour temporarily but will turn crystal-clear after a while. If the brownish colour remains for several days, please check your filter or reduce the dosage. Dosage Depending on how densely the tank is stocked, dose approx. 1g to 50 litres of water every week. Measuring spoon markings: 1 ml = 0.5g / 2 ml = 1g Measuring spoon enclosed. Available sizes 50 g (sufficient for approx. 2500 l aquarium water) 130 g (sufficient for approx. 6500 l aquarium water) Black Water Powder SE/Fulvin+ 50g - $16.95 Black Water Powder SE/Fulvin+ 130g - $28.95

  9. Hi all, My name is Hung Lee, and I am a shrimp addict... I realized very early into my shrimping habit that I had to look outside our borders to fulfill my addiction. And while the accessibility to freshwater dwarf shrimps have improved immensely in recent years through the efforts of individuals like Frank, Ron, Tommy and companies like Ebi-Ken, Canadian Aquatics and ShrimpFever, my appetite for shrimp related products have also grown immensely as I rooted myself deeper and deeper into the hobby. Despite the great process we have made as a hobbyists, I still found myself wanting more, and continuing to look beyond our borders for shrimp related goods. So today I have come full circle, today the the addict becomes the supplier.... today I introduce Shrimpkeepers Anonymous (or SKA for short) to the general public! Who am I ? My other handle on AA is Jumpsmasher and for all intended purpose Shrimpkeepers Anonymous is a one-man operation. That being said, Shrimpkeepers Anonymous wouldn't be possible without urging and support of fellow shrimpkeepers. I been been keeping shrimps for several years but in recent year I been putting most of my efforts into developing my own line of Pure Red Line Crystal Red Shrimps and well as breeding a few other species of Caridina shrimps. To be honest, I never really thought much about starting up a company like Shrimpkeepers Anonymous; I was quite focused on my own breeding efforts and pretty contented with bringing in products for my own use as needed as there wasn't really too many people locally that were into the higher end shrimps like I was. But a few interaction with fellow hobbyists really opened my eyes and made me realized I wasn't the only one that glimmered with excitement every time a new shipment of shrimp products came in and although those people might be few and far in-between, it wasn't too far off from what I have been doing for myself for years. Of course, I will probably be SKA's top customer for many years to come but I will try my best not to hoard all the good stuff! What is Shrimpkeepers Anonymous? To most people Shrimpkeepers Anonymous is a dealer / distributor of freshwater shrimp related supplies. We will be importing a number of brands from all over the world and making them accessible to all Canadian shrimp hobbyists. Our current line-up includes Salty Shrimp, GlasGarten, Benibachi, Aqua Design Amano, Prodibio, Dennerle / Shrimp King, Breeder 'n Keepers, Söchting, Bio-Culture, and many more. Most of the products are already in stock with more arriving soon. We have local pick-up in Calgary and also ship all across Canada. Once the website (www.skashrimps.com) is up and running, customer can order online 24/7. To me, Shrimpkeepers Anonymous or more specifically SKA is also my brand. As I developed my line of shrimps I realized I needed a "brand" and just calling them Hung's PRL was not going to cut it. SKA branded shrimps will be shrimps that I have developed and bred in my own tanks over the past few years. Will Shrimpkeepers Anonymous sell shrimps? Many have already asked me if I will be bringing in certain types of shrimps - my answer is simply as follows: I am first and foremost a shrimp breeder and while I am in the processing adding another rack with 11 tanks (14 partitions) , most of those have already been pre-allocated for the expansion of my current breeding projects as they been planned well in advanced, prior any plans for Shrimpkeepers Anonymous. We will have a limited selection of SKA tank-bred shrimps for sale and from time to time, we might offer some surplus shrimps for sale when we do some imports for new breeding projects. I can said that right now I will be devoting some new tanks for wild type shrimps and snails, particularly those from Sulawei and India. I have am starting to have quite the collection of Sulawei Rabbit Snails : ) If you are looking for a certain type of shrimp and if I don't have it myself, I can certainly point you in the right direction. Anyways, thank-you for viewing and for all your support over the years on AA. If you have any questions about the products we sell or shrimp keeping in general, please feel me to us on here or via email: sales@skashrimps.com Regards, Hung Lee Shrimpkeepers Anonymous
