  1. That's actually a good idea. There probably isn't any good way to check if the iron leaks out is there? I have clown loaches too and they are scaleless so pretty sensitive to metals
  2. I'm assuming a rock like this is a no no? I'm a hallucinating or it's really pyrite that covers it?
  3. Great... So I went to burnco and got 150lbs (better more than less) of Kendall stones. Looks really cool but washing them I found out they all have fools gold on them!!! I guess I'm gonna have to go back again and now have a pile of useless rocks
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions! It really sounds like I will head down to burno this weekend, and yes I wish I could upgrade the tank size! if I would listen to me I would have a 200 gallons in there
  5. Haha oups :S... I see what you are talking about now, it's a bit like those granite plates people use. Definitely makes it easy for stacking but I find it doesn't look very natural
  6. Fieldstone winery? Never heard of that place but i'm not really far from there. Would it be better than burnco? (that's why I was going to go originally)
  7. Would you go with smaller similar round rocks or smaller sharper rocks? I find the look of sharp rocks better but tired to get round ones so the fish don't injure themselves on them.
  8. Hi, I am looking to improve the hardscaping of my tank, maybe switch to a different type of rock all together. My goal is to improve the amount of caves the fishes get while keeping it naturally looking and visually appealing. Here is a picture of my tank as well as a video of the african cichlid tank and the angelfish planted tank (why not) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwrVxsX9fBo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOddITo5smY
  9. Here are the guys, sorry for the blurry pictures they move all the time and really fast...that was feeding time, anyway I love those fish but i'm looking to add a little more color and variety to the tank. I'm in SE Calgary
  10. Thanks Tyler, I guess i'll use some aquarium salt and wait a few days see if she gets better on her own. At least in that tank she's not getting picked on by all the other fish... in the other tank my loaches were "feeding" on her, and other chiclids would pick on her
  11. Hi all, Little update: Yesterday I moved her to my 60 gallon I was getting setup for my angelfish, so now lucky her she has the whole tank to herself, so now at least other fish don't pick on her. Looks like she is fairly active in the tank and swim around even though it looks tough. I tried feeding her peas but she didn't eat them, she didn't eat her regular food either. My water temperature was already 82 degres as it is the temperature I keep my angelfish and african chiclids.\ Tyler: what do you mean by broad spectrum antibiotic?
  12. Any suggestions? My fish is about dead, i'd really want to try something at least
  13. I edited the link let me know if it works now. That's what I tough that maybe she got injured by another fish. Is there anything I can do now?
  14. Hi all, I hope you can help my out with this. On Friday one of my Johanni Chiclid started to have issues swimming, she keeps falling to the bottom or on her side, otherwise she seems to be acting normally. Anything I can do to help her? I should have posted on here much earlier... I took a video to show you her behavior: https://youtu.be/zk0jlkDBbzw
  15. Thanks!, maybe i'm been to hard on myself or perfectionist as usual, I didn't really like what I did but maybe it's not that bad after all
  16. Thank you for your advice, I did indeed made sure it was fairly solid as I think they are trying to re-create the rocky mountains in my tank I choose river rocks because they are round which I thought would be safer for the fish
  17. Hi, I've recently inherited of 20 big johanni cichlid and a big chinese algae sucker. After giving a few Cichlid away to my friend here I am with 16 of those big guys, my 3 clown loaches and the chinese algae sucker. I've done some hardscaping with rocks I found along the bow river but I need some help in improving the layout. Note I still have 1 full bucket of rocks that I could use. Thanks everyone!
  18. Oh ok thanks, I finally just purchased an aqueon optibright (from the first link). It's very bright and I like the night mode, power consumption is around 20 watts which is quite good for the light it produces. I will setup my tank and report back on here how it does with plants.
  19. Indeed they don't have 42 inches only "glo" makes 42 inches T8. Should I spend close to 80$ to buy 2 life-glo 40 watts T8 or one of these? http://www.petsmart.ca/fish/lights/aqueon-optibright-led-light-zid36-27507/cat-36-catid-300073 http://www.amazon.ca/Fixture-Modular-Aquarium-Lighting-AQ15611/dp/B00N59Z1RU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436210762&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Aqueon+Fixture+Optibright Also does any of you have expection with those LED, i'm still trying to figure out which one of those 2 would be better.
  20. Thanks wanted to check those but I'll have to double check if they have 42 inches I think they only have 48 and 36
  21. Hi everyone, I am in the process of setting up a new tank for my angelfish. It's a 55 gallons 48 inches long and the current T8 are both burned out so I need to replace them and now I have a dilema. The T8 bulbs it is currently using are 42 inches long which seem to be rather an non-standard size even though I was able to find some. I am also considering LED lights. I'm not sure which direction to go. 1 feature that I would like to have is the night light. I would like to keep it under 100$ and I intend to make this aquarium my first planted tank so i'd rather start with lighting oriented in that direction. Any thoughts?
  22. It does seem like it started without me... that's the part i'm confused, where did that amonia, nitrate and nitrites came from if there wasn't any fish waste, plants or anything live in the tank?
  23. Hi everyone, I am quite puzzled right now: I just got a 55 gallon tank setup with sand and some drift wood from the previous owner and I am getting weird water test. 0.25 Amonia at least 2ppm nitrite and 5 ppm nitrate. The substrate and brand new play sand I just bough and carefully rinsed until water running clear, the drift wood was boiled as well as filter medias. Anyone have an idea what's going on and should I worry about starting my cycle like this ?
