  1. I'm not sure. I'm new to live foods aside from brine shrimp, but my killis have gotten very comfortable in the tank over the last week. It's not the best scape I just threw stuff in there but I like that about it. Iv been feeding xtreme and vitalis flaks of a set of long planting tweezers and they are earing aggressively now. So I'm not as concerned as I was before. I would like to introduce some live foods when I am ready to breed. My male is still a bit young. Thank you for your feed back its appreciated.
  2. Can I keep a trio 1 male two female aphyosemion australe killlis with a aphyosemion manginatum trio in the same tank? They come from the same geographic area and require similar tank conditions. Some goby are able to Identify females of other types and do not interbreed. Will the killi fish try to breed with the australe and manginatum try to breed with the others females? Not a lot of info on this when I searched on it. I'm not worries about aggression between the males I can provide the proper tank set up to give them enough space and cover
  3. I have a large Indian almond leave in the tank aswell
  4. Also can you get live foods like micro worms for the LFS?
  5. Thanks foe the response jvision. I always appreciate your input. Right now I have floating anubius x 3 plants small. A little bit of fire moss attached to drift wood and a floating plant you recommended in an earlier post. I forget the name of it at the moment. I'm going to add some Java moss and maybe another anubius to float. I was going to ask this question in the planted forum but while we are here. Iv chosen low light hardy easy going plants but I'm packing the 15 gallon with them. Should I be dosing ferts?
  6. I set up a 15 gallon tank and pit three killi fish in it. They are tiny right now and shy. I find it hard to get food to them with out over feeding the tank. Any one else ever have the same issue?
  7. I have the tank set up with some salvinia, floating anubius and a bit of fire moss attache to drift wood. They seem to really like to swim around in the roots on the floating anubius. I haven't found out what kind of spawners they are just yet
  8. As always, thanks for the input. I'm definitely going to ads some of those plants. Iv heard from a lot of people that they regret putting malaria trumpet snails in there tank. I chose the same substrate I put in all my other tanks. Super naturals nat crystal river. It's a bright substrate which I wanted to avoid but the light will be low with lots of cover
  9. I'm building a 15 gallon killi fish tank. I may add some small corydoras later on. The tank is specifically for west African Gabon killi fish. I'm going to plant it heavily with Anubius. Maybe some Java fern and some floating plants. Indian almond leaves and wood will be included. I'm researching substrates. Best substrate recomendations? Best floating plant recomendation? Thought about going full planted with ADA soil but I really want to focus on the fish and water quality and not stress over plants. Any killi keepers out there what do you think?
  10. I'm now setting up a 15 gallon species only tank. For these killis. I found out that they are a west African Gabon variety. I would love some recommendations on the build. If interested look for the post in the community forum as I may add some Cory's later on
  11. I think the LFS may have miss labeled them because they look like this. aphyosemion gardneri
  12. I recently picked up a group of aphyosemion manginatum. Killi fish. I'm going to try to breed them. They are in my comunity tank now but I'm going to set up a breeding tank. Can different varieties of killifish live in a community together? I'm thinking of building a killi only community aquarium. Once I get the breeding going and I have a good group I'd love to trade for other colour varieties.
  13. I have found it interesting and note worthy that the introduction of the 5 Cory's and 4 emperor tetras had obviously created a buisyer tank. I think it's note worthy that this has calmed down some of the squabbling amongst the bolivian rams. The fish add as a distraction and at times a barrier or break of line of sight between the rams. One ram has lost his corner on the substrate to the Cory's but he doesn't seem to mind. He just lives in the plant on the right now
  14. Eventually I want to convince my dad to change the scape. I'd like to glue a nice anubius on to a small piece of Malaysian drift wood and put it just left of center where the orange rock is and remove the rock. Take out the plant on the right and move the center plant closer to the left.
  15. Thank you. You wouldn't know it to look at it unless it's feeding time, there's 20 fish in that little 32.5 gallon tank.

  17. I'd like to thank both Cgy Betta Guy and J vision for your input on this tank. I research a lot and watch videos. I read up on the fish and equipment I use. But it's very comforting to be able to ask specific questions about what I'm doing and get feed back from others with years of experience. Your appreciated.
  18. I was never a tetra fan prior to setting this tank up back in December. The Rummys where the first 6 fish I put in there. They are so vibrant now and they all have beautiful green blotches on the top of their heads. My dad thought it was a fungus but it's just them showing their full colors.
  19. The levels the fish use are nicely stacked in this tank it seems. Gourami and emporers top to mid level. Rummy and rams mid to bottom and we'll the Cory's.
  20. Iv always kept my tanks lightly stocked. This Tank I set up for my dad and he wantd lots of fish. Do you think those numbers are alright? Could I get away with adding a couple more rummy?
  21. Thank you. I will try that. The guy at the local fish store said I should add more emporer tetras and they will calm down a bit but I want my rummy school to be bigger than the emporers. Maybe ill add a couple more rummys
  22. I raise the question not for plants necessarily although I plan to setup a planted tank again at some point. All my fish are described as fish that are sensitive to rising nitrate and phosphate levels. I keep my nitrates low and test for them weekly. I have no clue what's going on in my water regarding phosphate levels
  23. Iv done some research. I don't check ammonia or nitrites in my tanks currently. I just keep an eye on nitrate levels weekly. I don't have any issues. Both tanks are nice and clean. Should I be testing for phosphate levels? Do you? Are nitrate levels an indicator of phosphates? If my nitrates are low are my phosphates also low?
