  1. No live plants in the tank. Just fake
  2. I have a 30 gallon with 4 bolivian rams a dwarf gourami and 6 rummy nose tetras. The tetras have broken out with ich. I'm not sure where it came from as my tank and water are kept clean and cycled. I added 1/4 cup of salt to it today and I'm slowly raising the temperature. 1/4 cup of salt for 30 gallons doesn't seem like much. What Temp should I aim for and how much salt should I add. The inter web gives really conflicting info. Thanks any advice appreciated!
  3. I have been considering increasing the rummy nose. I was also considering 6 to 8 all male guppies. I never kept guppies before I set up a guppy tank for my niece at Christmas. I love how active and colorful they are.
  4. Maybe a handful of fancy guppies?
  5. I have a 32 gallon fluval flex going right now with 4 bolivian rams, 6 rummy nose tetras and a powder blue dwarf garami. I'd like to put somthing else in it that won't stick around the bottom too much. The rams and tetras are always on the bottom layer of the tank. Any suggestions. Would a pea puffer work in this tank? Everyone gets along really well right now so I don't want to screw that up All suggestions appreciated. Thanks
  6. Ok, thanks for the feed back. That's good to know!!
  7. The tank does fine. Like I said my nitrates are never highr than 10 ppm. I was more curious to know when fish start to become affected by nitrate. Iv heard some people say their nitrates get up to 20 or 30 ppm with no problem. Iv just never let mine get that high. Thanks for answering though!
  8. I have a 30 gallon going right now with a small group of bolivian rams, a small group of rummy nose tetras and a dwarf gourami. I do water changes once a week and nitrate levels have never really been above 10 ppm. Upon researching before and after stocking I read in many articles that rummynose and bolivians are " Sensitive to rising nitrate levels" Does anyone know (ball park) at what nitrate level these more Sensitive fish start to feel adversely to the nitrates in the water? If I decided to leave it for two weeks and the nitrate jumped to 20ppm would that be too much?
  9. Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate the response. The tank cycled just fine I did another 75% water change a day before we stocked it with koi tuxedo guppies. The tank is doing great
  10. I'm in the middle of a fishless cycle for a 15 gallon. I got home after work today tested my water and was happy with my results. The tank is cycling, ammonia was down and nitrates and nitrites where up. After testing with out thinking and being as tired as I was I poured the nitrite and nitrate test vials back into the tank. I did a 50% water change and dosed it with aquavitro seed. Will this crash my cycle?
  11. Thank you I appreciate the input. I was a little hesitant. I did ask the shop. They said they where captive bred in hard water. Iv wanted Apistos for a long time but didn't want to get into R.O water
  12. Hey all. Iv posted a lot on here recently and have not really generated a lot of discussion but I would really like to get an opinion on this. I went to a local fish store today and they had two types of fish labeled Blue Rams and they had some apisto cacatoidis. ( not sure about spelling).. this fish where all labeled and being sold as captive bred "hard water" adapted fish. Has any one seen that before? Is this just a sales tactic? My PH is 7.4. 30 gallons empty and almost fully cycled. So I'm thinking about purchasing some. I don't know how much I trust this store though. Iv always wanted to keep Apistos. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
  13. I used microbacter start bacteria and quikcycle ammonia to cycle my aqurium. I had the filter on and was dosing the bacteria into the filter inlet. I waited for days and had no change in my ammonia levels and no cycling going on. After doing research and watching a Dr Tims video I found I was doing this wrong. I turned off the pump, Dosed my aqarium with bacteria all over the tank. I then let it settle down on the substrate and left the pump off for an hour, then turned it back on. I repeated this the next day. The morning after I woke up and the tank was positive for nitrites and nitrates. The Ammonia level dropped over night from 2ppm to 1ppm. If Any one wants a fast fishless cycle I found the key was to try to build the bacteria on the substrate. Turn your filter off add bacteria and let the bacteria settle on the substrate for a while then turn the filter back on
  14. Has any one used microbacter quick cycle ammonia and live bacteria to cycle a tank before?
  15. I have a fluval flex 32.5 gallon cycling right now. I was thinking of stocking a small group of rummy nose tetras, a pair of dwarf gouramis and a bolivian ram (Male). Any one see any issues with this community? My ph is 7.6 and hardness is hardness is 17. Mg/l or 9.9grains per gallon.
  16. I'm looking for an aquarium stand to fit a fluval flex 32? If any one has somthing they want to sell PM me
  17. I was at a loss the other day and I was really into the Congo tetras. They have beautiful color and nice fins
  18. I am looking for stocking suggestions for a peaceful active and colorful 10 gallon tank. It's for my 8 year old niece for Christmas. It will have excellent water quality and I can get over there a few times a week at first to check on things but eventually once a week for supervised water changes and cleaning. I am leaning towards a few fancy guppies and a mystery snail. I'd like to hear some other Ideas though if any one has some advice. Iv never done a tank this small before. Any input on a community set up would be appreciated. I want to keep stock level light to medium to keep water quality in good shape
  19. I used to have a trusted friend that I would get media from to jump start my tanks. Iv never cycled a tank. Is there anyone on here that's well known un edmonton with a clean mature tank that would be willing to help me out?
  20. I'm going to set up a 10 gallon fancy guppy comunity aquarium with an HOB filter. I was looking at the seachem tidal 35. It looks like it can be turned down to a decently low flow rate. Is this too much filter for a 10 gallon?
  21. I got rid of all my fish stuff a few years back. I'm planning a 10 gallon for my niece for Christmas. I haven't purchased any supplies yet but I am trying to create a stock plan. Does any one know the water PH out of the tap in devon? Is it as hard as Edmonton?
  22. Thanks every one. ill pass on the beef heart. it wont be long until I can go out and collect worms
