  1. 3 gallon cookie jar. Dirted with play sand and drift wood. Heated to 80 degrees.

    Flora:

-Young anubias. This variety (don't know which?) Gets 24" and it thrives and flowers fully submerged in low light no fertilizer. I plan on swapping it when I get a smaller species.

-sold to me as "babies tears" but I can't get it to grow in any of the three tanks I have it in. It'll be replaces soon too.

    -moss ball

    Fauna:

    -male crown tail beta

    -ramshorn snail

I was inspired to try this by all the wonderful nano set ups I've been seeing lately. So far the occupants seem thrilled with this set up. If at any point I need to I can up size to a 5 or 10 gallon, but this was composed as a tank for my desk, and so far so good.

  2. I have a 29 gal planted tank that is just starting to get established. The current substrate is natural round gravel/ pebbles but it's a little thin. I was thinking the plants and cories would love some sand, but I really don't want to rip up all my happy plants and replace.

So can I add sand on top of gravel?

  3. I have a 29 gallon planted tank that is doing very well. Peppered Corrys, lemon tetras, dwarf rainbows and one panda Garra. I've been thinking about adding a couple rams. Ph 7, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 0. Temp 77.

Other than clean water, anything else I need to know? Good idea or no? I was thinking a male and female. What type? Would german blues do alright or should I look at Bolivian?

  4. I got given a fish and I have no idea what it is . Back story:

.added to a small (4 gallon?)fluval tank less than 2 years ago with some other fish and shrimp. They all died off about 1.5 years ago leaving this guy alone with a moss ball. The tank had a algae problem which was attributed to the lights so they were permanently shut off. The owner believed it could live off scum in the tank and thus fed shrimp pellets once a month. I think the heater died some time ago, there was no air and I doubt the filter was changed. Water topped up but never changed.

Thus I have no idea of potential size or actual color. Tail tinted slightly red. Sucker mouth. He's currently in a 2.6 gallon quarantine. We'll see if he lives.

    So what is it?

  5. He was in a tank with a larger gourami that bullied him.hes now been in a planted 29 gallon with no bullies for over a week. He still looks dull and dirty. Spends his time split between laying in odd positions in the plants and swimming actively eating like crazy.no signs of ich.

    Nitrate below 20

    Nitrite 0

    Amonia 0

    Ph 7

Other odd thing is when light shines through you can see a dark patch in the muscle at the upper part of his tail. He doesn't seem to have full function of the top half. Bottom works fine.

    Any ideas?

  6. I'm a long time fish enthusiast that just found this great site. I currently have a 65 gallon fancy goldfish set up and a new 29 gallon planted tropical community tank. Look forward to learning lots here.
