Just be careful with mixing species. From what I've read, the dwarf varieties are related and will interbreed. If you're looking for pure strains, keeping them together could become a problem.

Congrats, though. Your tigers are really beautiful.

Supposedly the Tiger (Caridina sp. "Tiger") and the snowball (Neocaridina sp.) shrimps don't interbreed. But thanks for the heads up. And, just to be safe, I've also got a few other tanks going as species only tanks.

Yeah, I was picky about getting some nice koi angels with lots of red covering so I had to do some special ordering.

Nice! Perhaps I can take care of them for you? I live only 30 minutes from Vancouver ;-)

I've used it. What I have done is wash it first in a large bucket. Rinse it a few times. Then in a bare and clean tank I added some plain potting soil (1 cm deep). Over that I added a thin layer of MIXED flourite/sand and then pure flourite on top. Then I place a large plate in the tank and slowly our in the water onto the plate so that the water will not disturb the substrate.

I find that way, it won't cloud the tank that much. Good luck!

well, in Richmond I know that the Big Al's is a bit tight for giving out good money for your fishes. I generally sell them at 25% of what the stores sell them for but I noticed that Big Al's give a lot less and also in credit. My suggestion is to shop around and see who will give what.

I'm not saying that Big Al's is a bad place, all I'm saying is that they tend not to offer a lot because they do get a lot of their fishes from their Florida farms. However, if they were hard to come by fishes, then perhaps you'd get more for them. So, shop around and ask questions. Grant it, Big Al's may take a lot of fishes at once whereas smaller stores may only take a dozen or so. Therefore it may take a while to move all your fry. Good luck

I think they both work fine. Just gotta make sure that the light intensity is strong enough to reach the bottom of your tank or at least to the plants. If it's a shallow tank, then T-12 should do it. Also, there are plant lights for T-12's at Home Depot or Revy. I'm not sure about the plant lights for the T-8's but I think they are more intense than the T-12. Good luck

For my cory fry I use bare bottom. As Vapor said, it's easier to clean and see dead ones.

So I guess they aren't little bugs on the surface of the water? cause if it's those, it's most likely springtails (colembola). I've never had flies in my tanks before though. Good luck!

hhmm.... I feed my fishes frozen bloodworms, Nutrafin flakes, my home made beefheart mix, some hikari mysis, some hikari algae wafers and catfish pellets, some shrimp pellets (Wardleys and HBH), and some other flake food from Mark Weiss and that's the main part of it. I also have other foods but I don't feed them those often. Oh, and baby brine shrimp for all my babies!

yup, sounds like snail eggs to me. In my experience, anything covered in a coat of jelly, or as some call it goo, turns out to be snails expecially when they are found on some plants.

Yes, good luck!!! I know a friend of mine who breeds the electric blue lobsters and a few of his pointers:

1) make sure there is a ot of hining places e.g. PVC tubes, rocks, or pieces of wood

2) once the female has dropped the babies, take out the female

3) when the babies grow, make sure you seperate the largest ones otherwise they eat the smaller ones.

I have not bred them myself but that's what he says. He's got lots!

I've got some African fern (bolbitis) that would do well in your tank. In fact, I have it growing in my 75 gallon tank and they're atleast 16 inches tall.

So they are doing well for you! I'm glad to hear. When I was packing those fishes they all looked great! I was telling Colin that I bet they'd spawn soon based on their size.
