  1. HI All,

I'm moving to a new place and have to move a 55 gallon tank that has 3 angels, a SAE, rainbow shark and some other assorted fish.

If I move the aquarium and set it up the same day am I risking an ammonia spike? I was hoping to get my LFS to assist in bagging my fish but they are on vacation next week.

    Thoughts?

  2. I recently bought a couple of wood shrimp and got them to my tank and both seemed to be doing well. Gradually last night and this morning, one started turning a pinkish colour. By late this morning, i found it on it's back/side in a pinkish/orange colour. I'm trying to determine if it died or molted. Having no experience with Shrimp like this can someone let me know?

    thanks,

  3. Hi All,

I would like to get a couple Siamese Algae Eaters and have heard that they can fight/nip at Rainbow Sharks. I have a 55 gallon tank which has a fair bit of driftwood that I have used to make caves, a few silk plants, and a few other ornaments. Should I be concerned for my Rainbow Shark or for the SAE's if I were to get them?

Current stock is 3 Flames Tetras, one bristlenose pleco, one rainbow shark, and 2 Kribensis. I am wanting to get more flame tetras as this was my stock list from my 25 gallon that went away so I could set this new tank up. I'm not sure what other fish that I want to add in the future.

    Thanks,

  4. avoid an area of the tank where there is water splashing directly below the feeder. (above an airstone, or in front of a filter outflow)

should take care of the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm trying it out on a new area of the tank and so far it seems to be fine. I'm keeping my eyes on it though. But the fish seem healthy and fed.

  5. I've had an automatic feeder on my fishtank for a while and in the last couple of months I've been having problems wiht the food becoming mushy inside and starting to smell. Any ideas as to why and how to fix it?

  6. Hi There,

I'm looking to buy a canister filter for a 56 gallon that I'm going to start up here hopefully this month. :smokey:

I'm looking for feedback as to what canister filters people are running and what size I should get for my tank. For the immediate this will be the primary source of filtration for the tank.

Currently, I'm looking at the Eheim 2215 or Ecco 2236, Fluval 305, or Rena XP2. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Chad

  7. I own the unit and have insurance so it's not a concern from that perspective but thanks for the input.

By all means, contact the builder, but six hundred pounds is really not all that much.

Would you hesitate to put in a loaded fridge. A water bed? throw a party where three big men stand in one spot BSing?

I don't think there would be a problem, my self. Now the land lord, that's another question.

Don't forget the insurance, always a good idea.

    Hey Everyone,

I want to upgrade my tank to a 55 gallon. I have got wondering about the weight of the tank recently and am wondering if this is feasible. I live on the second floor of a condominium building and am wondering if I should be concerned about the weight of the tank on the floor? Does anyone have any experience with this? I have been adding up the weight and am thinking that it will be between 500 - 600 pounds including the stand.

The tank will be located about 7-10 feet from an exterior wall and measurments are 36" L x 20" W. I'm just wondering what some thoughts are and may call the original builder tomorrow to get the measurements of the floor joists.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Chad

  9. It looks fuzzy. My concern is that I don't have a hospital tank right now. I had to tear it down for resealing a little bit ago and it's not ready to go yet. Can I dose the whole tank even though the other fish aren't affected? Does a plastic container work to isolate him in? suggestions?

  10. Thanks for the post, but I'm pretty sure it's not ich. That was my first thought when I saw him glance off the piece of driftwood that I have in my tank but it's been there for a few days (probably 3-5) and so far there is no spreading and no other fish seems affected by anything.

  11. I was reading on some fish websites last night regarding treating fish and some sites suggested that if you don't have a hospital tank set up that you can give the fish a bath for 20-30 minutes a day in a separate container. Does this work?

If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to treat a fish without a hospital tank?

    thanks,

  12. Hey Everyone,

I have an Apisto. Caucatoide that has a little white spot above his lateral line that looks a little pussy. It is slightly swollen around the mark so I'm just trying to figure out if it is there because of a fungal infection or a rub mark?

If it's fungal what is the best way to treat it?

    Here are some pics, although they are not the greatest;

  13. How long has it been missing?

If its been a few days it could have died and then been eaten by the pleco and snails.

Are you sure you have looked everywhere in the tank? Moved around rocks and checked in plants? In the filters?

Yeah I figured it was hiding at first as it was still pretty little. Last time I saw him was prior to Easter Weekend and he was healthy but then after the weekend I didn't see him. So I waited a day and then started to move things around but still didn't show up. I don't have a lot of snails so I guess the Pleco must be to blame. Would they attack a live fish or does it have to be dead?
