Just would like to say a big thank you for a great auction ACE - the runners, auctioneers, cashiers, and the people who brought a wide variety of items .
To seller of the large black and large gold angels: please, please the next time you pack fish put in more water as soon as I received these fish I realized the gold one was in major distress so quickly added more water and put in a bigger bag but unfortunately the gold did not survive for more than a few minutes - the black seems to be fine today but would beg you to please take more care and I thank you for doing so next time - also are there concerns about feeding fish food that has expired?? as the food purchased at the auction was expired in 2013/2014/2015 and am not sure if is safe or not and would like opinion of others - again thank you for the great time had by all
I wouldn't use food that expired 2-3 years ago... Seems kinda cheesy that it was brought to the auction in the first place instead of the trash can where it belongs.

Heads up it is glassworm season ...get em while u can. Look for them in deeper water in ditches.

Ahhh found the empty bag .5 mm community formula

It was the small grow size in large bag . Can't remember if it had specific name , Harold brought it over. It affects the red colours the blues and yellows seem fine but it seems to take quite a bit longer for the colors to develop in young fish. Harold noticed the affect on the red colors also if I remember right.

Try a treatment of clout
-
Yup I have to say the Northfin foods tanked the colors in all my grow out tanks that I tested it on.
.

I feed them NLS and occasionally live daphnia and glassworms when in season. Stay away from that Rapasy super food stuff.

You can try clout , espom salt treatments or flubendazole , but once the color is gone from the fish it usually means they have internal damage and will probably never fully recover. If you get new fish from the same source you must hit them with meds right away as they will be carrying the same pathogens. The pathogens often remain dormant until the fish are stressed and surprisingly even things like very clean water if coming from heavily stocked grow out tanks can trigger the stress.

I used to breed these many years ago . Planted tank with Calgary tap water and they would lay their eggs on a broad leaf ...that all I remember.

I have a breeding pair of blue acaras in with 35 tropheus moorii and around 15 paracyps ...no problems

Stream fed ponds are not that good. Try to find still water preferably near cattle pastures, even small puddles can yield large amounts of critters.

not sure, haven't seen any mosquito larva yet ..mostly fairy shrimp and glass worms right now.
-
Ponds are starting to produce early this year. I have already grabbed 4 buckets full, mostly newly hatched fairy shrimp.

Yeah looking at some vids and pics they could well be hogas. I guess Laif is better at identifying Africans.

Hopefully these are in the breeders cull tank. They are deformed version of a beautiful fish that have no business being offered for sale. Just my 2ยขI saw balloon rams at Pisces once, any one know where I can find these now?
ya I have to agree

Thanks for the heads up ..I'm always looking for good strainers to separate my pond catch.

I have some euro bred neon rams that I'm working with.

I never really checked 1 died and I have what seems like 2 pairs left ..once my busy season ends I will pay more attention to them and take photos.

Not sure how old they are .I originally got 5 w/c about 3 inches long from a Colombian exporter, the biggest is now around 7 inches. I just keep them in a 240 gallon tank with Tropheus , Stigmatochromis modestus, and some mbuna. Never had an aggression issue yet. I feed them only 1mm nls and some live food in season.
