I am a jr high science teacher in Calgary and am interested in doing a project similar to this in my classroom. Basically, it would be a fully enclosed aquatic environment with a plant and an animal species. My problem is the recommendation of guppies. They fit into my budget (cheap), and other people seem to have had success with them, but I'm pretty confident that they would not be eating the algae or plant, so at the least would be under stress after a week or two. Does anyone have a recommendation for a fish (or snail) and/or aquatic plant combination that they think would do well under these conditions? The only real limiting factor for me is the cost as it's for a student project. Thanks for any suggestions.
