You'll need to test for ammonia and nitrite. Make sure both are at zero before you buy livestock. You'll also want a nitrate test kit in the future.

Also make sure you plan out your stocking list carefully ahead of time so you can't be talked into making impulse purchases at the store! How big is the tank?

Are you planning to eventually buy corals, or is this just a FOWLR tank?

Have you purchased a skimmer?

Lighting?

Powerheads?

Setting up a new tank. Will fill it full of live sand and live rock this weekend. Water will be flowing through me tank and sump. Probably for 2 weeks before i add anything else. Which testers should i be buying to ensure survival of any livestock i buy?

ther is a very good test kit for salt water also a good reef kit forgot the name i got the kits at pet smart and you should wait 4 weeks before you add any fish to the tank
