Dirt_Diver
Hi. I'm looking to start a saltwater tank soon. I understand everything I need and the steps to take to get the tank setup and cycled. However, if tap water isn't good enough for saltwater, what are my best options? Thank you for any feedback
cainechow
Nice. Another new SW tank. My understand is that a lot of people in Calgary are able to go tap water + prime for conditioning. The issue with tap is that the water chemistry can change with the seasons because the water treatment plants have to do more work on the water in the spring because of runoff and things like that. If you go with reverse osmosis (RO) you'll get more control over your water because it pretty much strips everything out of the water before you add your salt mix. You can find RO system for 200.00 up to 400.00 or more. You should consider that you'll need to replace the RO membrane eventually which will cost between 100.00 and 140.00 -ish.
