Scat_02
so once it gets big what should i put in the tank with it?
cichlidkid
it really depends on if its a male or female. that cichlid-forum thing isnt that accurate. males grow to about 16 inches and females smaller, about 12 inches. they are fairly mild tempered up to about 6 inches and then pop goes the festae, they get nuts. now I have had much more psyco fish but the thing about festaes, especialy males is they are built tough, males get very massive and heavy. I would say the smallest tank you should put a full grown male in is a 5x24 however festaes are very slow growers so a 90 gallon would suffice for quite a long time. a female could live in a 90 gallon for life. that is with no other fish. if you have any other questions just ask (rudy kept a pair of festaes for some time I would concider him the expert) I can answer some questions as well though. BTW where did you get them? Edited January 9, 2006 by cichlidkid

cichlidkid
yea at that size it should be sexable. this is a pic of my female at about 2 inches females have a darker patch at the front of their dorsal fin. At that age they start to loose spangling on their tails, males retain this spangling and eventualy get more throughought their body.
