Hemi
I have had the same thing happen with Oscars and yes they do grow back although some times not as nice as the original. as to how long it depends of the fish, water quality my Oscars usually took a few weeks. hope this helps Hemi

FishmanCalgary
The main thing is if he is eating. If yes, just give him some time. You might want to add some salt to the tank. Just to help make sure he doesn't get an infection. Raising the water temp will also speed up the metabolism, thus he should heal faster. Garhan
Like all the above also add some B12, E, and D vitamins to promote healing. Usually the B12 will do alone, but I also found that E and D are good to assist quicker healing to tears especially. For each dose about 1 tablet (500 mcg) per 10 liters. repeat after 3 days and continue for 2-3 weeks. Do a 25% water change prior to re-medication. Quarantine your fish into smaller tank if possible, cheaper on medication by the volume. Why is he getting shredded ? By whom...or what behavior issues? cichlidkid
he is being shredded by the male jewel, brotherly love I hope the jewel is smaller to. he also took a chunk out of my midas's fin. it isnt just torn it is a chunk will that grow back to? I just bought bulk of that healing stuff I think it will calm down soon when the two get three inches longer than him. the strange thing is the hewel doesnt get after the smaller fish
Hemi
your Jewel is going to cause you a lot of grief I had one that killed off 6 Oscars in the 10-12 inch range. The bloody Jewel was only 6-7 inches my advice would be to remove him to his own tank. Hemi
