  1. So I have another batch of baby yabbies, and the funniest thing about is I don't have a male yabbie, two females that is it. They take about the same time to incubate as crayfish (about a month under the tail) and then they hatch. Except this is what i find hilarious. With all of my others that I have bred and hatched, the mothers incubate for one month and then the eggs hatch and run off to start the battle royale. These guys have hatched and for the passed two weeks ( I noticed them starting to hatch on august 5) they are clinging to their mothers swimmerettes going along for the free ride.

They're still new born right now obviously but in a month or so they'll be ready to go. I imagine I will only get about 10-15 out of the batch as they are in a 210 gallon with a few other crays and lobsters but if anybody is interested feel free to pm me now and i will be sure to set them aside for you.

Let me know what you guys think..

    thanks nicole

  2. Hi guys..

Definatly not so new at the site but anyways.. Wanted to run something by you guys and see what you think about it or if any of you have any advice on the matter or anything please, I'd be interested to know. Anyways, the to get to the matter at hand... I'm sorta in the business of breeding crayfish and lobsters. Now, what I would like to do is eventually be able to export these little guys and send them all over the place. However, I've run into the problem even on this site of nobody seems to be alll that interested in these little guys. Can anybody tell me why this is? Is it because people are thinking lobster... bottom feeding creature... probably going to eat my fish.. ? I don't really know, but would definatly like to! I've bred some really really neat species. My latest batch was an electric blue / snow white hybrid cross. Also I have some blue/red hyrbids. These guys are awesome! But instead of seeing my fahaka puffer and mantis shrimp eat them all up, I'd rather see them go to good homes. Drop me a message if you have any advice or anything to say on that matter.. Thanks you guys. This website and everyone apart of it rocks! Have a great day!

  3. I have a pair of dojo loaches... the female bigger than the male and I believe she's pregnant.. But I have no idea about anything to do with this. I've tried researching online and all it says is that they breed in the spring when its cooler or something... and not much else is known. I'd like to know how long they're going to develope inside of her before she lays the eggs.. I was told at that point it would be like 3 or 4 days and they would hatch.. any advice is super helpful. thanks

  4. Alright! We have children! I was told to take the mother out right away by a good fish friend of mine.. So i did.. and wa la... mega babies.. They were born on the 4th and they range from 1/2-1" in size, with beautiful blue colourings! Coolest thing I've ever seen. I started them off on blood worms too when they were really little so they've been growing quite rapidly. If anybody wants some let me know. It will still be another 2-3 weeks until I've grown them to the size I'd like them to be at before they go.. But I'm starting them off at $15 then.. So if there are any takers let me know. A bunch are already spoken for, for my favorite store Elite Aquatics... But they're are lots.. thanks guys

    good luck with ur babies..

  5. I couldn't be more excited! My female is finally holding eggs. The only thing I have any experience in breeding (this was by accident and unfortunate) is convicts. How many babies will survive? I've got her in a 75 gal tank all by her lonesome... Thanks for any advice you may have.. Brand new at this.. god its so exciting :D

  6. Is it a Procambarus alleni????

Its prob. just external fouling. Not uncommon & not really of concern to the crayfish unless it is effecting its ability to eat. Its usually caused by excessive waste in the substrate. A good cleaning of the tank will normally fix this problem.

    External fouling

Protozoans frequently foul the exoskeleton and gill cavity of freshwater crayfish. Severe fouling is usually associated with poor water quality, but may be due to reduced preening which occurs when animals are diseased. Fouling itself is of little consequence to the health of the crayfish unless it is so severe that it causes improper gill functioning, and it can be managed by water exchange. Valuable broodstock may be treated by bathing in formalin or another disinfectant to kill the protozoans. Common fouling protozoans of freshwater crayfish include Epistylus, Zoothamnium, Lagenophrys, Vorticella and Acineta.

I think it is affecting his ability to eat. I haven't seen him eat in almost a month I think. Doesn't mean that he hasn't eatten anything but usually he's raring to go for food. What would be used for treatment? thanks again...

  7. I collected a bunch of rocks from elbow falls and I was wondering if they are safe to use in the aquarium. Would I have to boil them? Or is it safe to just put them right on in?

    Thanks,

    Nicole

  8. my oscar is gettin the :cuss: kicked out of him by a convict 1/3 of his size i was wondering if there is anything i can do to get them to co-exist peacefully

I would say remove the convict if possible. They are relentlous and will probably end up killing your oscar.

  9. I know this is pretty not amazing but I've never had cichlids before and I've never bred anything but guppies.

Anyways, my juli's had little juli's! Aww and they're so little and cute all swimming in and out of their cave. So this brings me to my questions, as this is the first time I've noticed them (they are like microscopic!) and they don't have any yolk sac or anything like that, what in the devil do I feed something so tiny? Also they live in a 44 gallon tank with their parents and 3 other juli's, and this tank is in a very inaccessible place, so do I have to like spot feed them or anything? Because that will be extremely difficult. Can I just dump some sort of food in the water?

Also if I leave them in there with their parents and tankmates, are some going to survive?

Umm I think that's all for now.

I am so excited by this.

Congradulations! It's awesome to see them grow up. I don't know that much about cichlids or fish in general (beginner enthusiast) but my convict cichlids had about 3 hundred babies, and if any other fish were in the tank with them they were well aware to stay away from them. Seriously the best parents ever! So I imagine it will be more of a territorial thing and they will balance it out themselves. Also you can pick up some fry food or just crush flakes into powder that'll work to feed the little guys. Hopefully that helps you out.

  10. Hey guys hows it going? My name is nicole I'm 20 yrs old live in calgary.
