  1. are you looking for an external OR internal pump?

who is building the tank for you?

Externals are generally more powerful, Iwaki makes a great external pump as does sequence.

for internal...the supreme mag drives 18, 24, 36 will do the job or quiet one 6000

  2. I think you can get a better deal on 2 X 2217 locally.

Big Al's and Pisces have a deal.

Also, if you order from big als' online.ca you can get 15% off plus free shipping:

also, for a heater...I really like my titanium heaters. I think ocean city (16th Ave NW) sells a 300 watt titanium for $60.00

PS: I have several eheims (2215, 2217, 2317, 2229) I like them all except for the 2215...I find it is very weak in comparison to the others, It's for sale if your really interested...LOL

  3. the Big Al's in Calgary has had no luck in keeping their sharks alive either. About 4 have died in the past year. Maybe they just don't do well in captivity?

The first batch in Calgary all but one died because they tried to kill the algae with some kind of water treatment that wiped out most of the tank (at least that what I was told).

why not stick with some bamboo sharks if they want to have preds?

  4. hi guys, i just had 2 of my maxi jets 1200 crap out on me. made by Marineland. the unit itself is fine, but the plastic propeller would crack and cause a whole lot of noise. i already replaced one of the parts and its been only 2 months and now its broken. i bought 2 other units for my other tank and now they are cracked as well after 5 months. Anyone else with similar issues? FYI i use them for Under gravel jets but i don't think this type of application makes it fail. i'm starting to think they make these propellers out of doo doo on purpose to make money on the replacement parts.

Are you using sand as a substrate?

My bet is that you have substrate getting in to the impeller causing your problem.

Use a pre-filter and you should be fine.

  6. it seems from a quick Google search that the Aqua Clear 620 is the same as the 500/110.

Can you post a pics of what you have, then I can tell you what you are missing OR alternatively walk into any pet store and open up a box and see what parts are included, you should be able buy aqua clear part quite readily in any pet store that carries hagen products.
