  4. Aqua Plus has a ting to it. yellowish orange color
  5. if its the bulbs, try swapping them out to the screw in fluorescent twist bulbs. You can get them in 9 Watt bulbs that put out about 40 watts of light
  6. I work for mitch....LOL Grab one of the used ones....they aren't very old and the price will be right. I saw a couple of MAG 18's back there.
  7. are you looking for an external OR internal pump? who is building the tank for you? Externals are generally more powerful, Iwaki makes a great external pump as does sequence. for internal...the supreme mag drives 18, 24, 36 will do the job or quiet one 6000
  8. I think you can get a better deal on 2 X 2217 locally. Big Al's and Pisces have a deal. Also, if you order from big als' online.ca you can get 15% off plus free shipping: http://www.bcaquaria.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32931 also, for a heater...I really like my titanium heaters. I think ocean city (16th Ave NW) sells a 300 watt titanium for $60.00 PS: I have several eheims (2215, 2217, 2317, 2229) I like them all except for the 2215...I find it is very weak in comparison to the others, It's for sale if your really interested...LOL
  9. is majestic aquariums still in business. they use to make excellent custom stands. prices were a bit high but so was the quality
  10. now lets see some pics with Rays in there. looks like you'll have to get a snorkel to get in there are clean that thing. what kind of filtration are u using on that monster?
  11. The first batch in Calgary all but one died because they tried to kill the algae with some kind of water treatment that wiped out most of the tank (at least that what I was told). why not stick with some bamboo sharks if they want to have preds?
  12. I have kept them many times in the past. They are great glass cleaners
  13. silicone cures after about 24 hours at room temperature but we build tanks and tell our customers to wait at least 72 hours from the time we finish building our tanks, that way you are not putting any undo pressure on newly formed joints.
  14. clean everything, that way know that you starting fresh. did the tank come with a sump pump? here is a pretty decent thread on how you "could" set up your new system: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=60533 can also be done a lot simpler
  15. http://cichlaholic.com/ Spencer Jack Afishionados
  16. I have seen Discus and angels done MANY time together in the past with great success. Nicest I have seen was altums and Discus. www.simplydiscus.com is a great place to start your research.
  17. Are you using sand as a substrate? My bet is that you have substrate getting in to the impeller causing your problem. Use a pre-filter and you should be fine.
  18. Was just curious to see what AA members will be selling at the CAS Auction on Sunday. Details of the Auction here: www.calgaryaquariumsociety.com I will be selling some equipment (maybe even a Rena filstar XP3) and some German imported Discus... Some pics of the parents of the fish that I will be selling attached
  19. I guess you could always go with Thermofilters, canisterfilters or HOB filters that have heaters built in. They work great!!!
  20. it seems from a quick Google search that the Aqua Clear 620 is the same as the 500/110. Can you post a pics of what you have, then I can tell you what you are missing OR alternatively walk into any pet store and open up a box and see what parts are included, you should be able buy aqua clear part quite readily in any pet store that carries hagen products.
  21. I'd have to say no. The glass simply is not think enough to stand up to the pressure and weight of the water. In the end, its your call...but be prepared in case your tank blows out. my two cents worth from working for a tank building company.
  22. replacing a 26 inch tall tank is not a cheap endeavor. MUCH cheaper to have the pane replaced. Bring the tank to Calgary and I can have it repaired for you for a good price.
  23. you wanna go at least 12mm or 5/8th inch or the you get a bow and eventually it'll blow out. I work for a tank maker and can quote you on a piece of glass if your interested. PM me.... Cheers,
  24. depending on quality...$125.00 - $200.00 each
