hey rudy can you give me some tipps? im gonna build a sump. it will be 4 feet long and 1 foot wide. I like your holding tank you built into the sump and I would like to have something like that. I just need an explination (I cant really see cause the glass is seethough)

My questions are: 1) how hard is it for the to form a pair 2) what is the size they can pair off at 3) if they are together before they are big enough to pair off when they do will it be easier? 4) what is he term for an f0 cross f1? 5) do you think golds or riverfront would sponser a breeding program and give me a bunch of males on loan for 5 months with a down payment? 6) how many festaes should I purchase? 7) who is more likely to kill whom the mother or the father? 8) what other questions do I need answered?

also, Is it possible to OD your fish on melaix? I got a 50 ml bottle and made 5 litres but I still have some left in the melaluca bottle!?

I made up some diy melafix, the tea tree oil said 100% melaluca. I under dosed to be safe. but thenat the bottom on the back of it it says contains vitamin e is this bad?

naw you arnt predictable. actualy I just let my better half do the typing and that is what came out well I just thought of an interestng dellema. tankbusters. The glass is only 10 mill, it will be Very re-enforced, imagine a plywood tank with holes cut out for viewing on all sides. this still leaves a box though. if you where looking at it from the front there would be 2 and a half inches of that wood on all 4 sides. follow me? its pretty complicated maybe I should post a pic of my idea.

let me guess "Imho the festaes should be the sole occupants in that tank. For one thing male festae's can get up to 20 inches if you are lucky and the females can grow up to a max of 14" if you get an amzing specimin. When you get two fish that size in a tank that big, trust me it really looks full and it is with the agession levels of the red terrors, especialy if you have a breeding pair. If you really wanted to it would probably be okay to put a a couple or just one dither(s) in there, something like a convict that is fast, strong, and cheap tp replace " My bet is that is what you would say

urg ok so I dont understand this electrical stuff. I think that the festae setup would work for about 1.5 years. then the tank would be compleatle devoted to the festae pair

naw molly wouldnt do that (the midas) she is really mellow. the gt is meaner and smaller than her. as for the 50 dollar per month that is the electrical bills.

Ok i fugured out that it will cost 50$ max per month to run a 180 gallon tank. I also fiured out that if I can find work and I can work 7 hours per 7 day week I will earn aprox $150 per month so financialy getting the 180 is possible. Here is my plan, In the 180 gallon tank I put: A breeding pair of festae :bow: A salvini A jack dempsey and a male convict (with female visites from time to time if all goes well) I will also have a ton of hiding places that everyone else can get ino except the festaes. These will be on the last 3 feet of the tank the hiding places will be sparvce on the first foot but more often as you et further from the festae grounds. If the festaes start breeding I will take out the convict and maybe another fish and put a divider with a love door in the middle of the tank. as for my 90 gallon it will be stocked with my female midas, green terror, female convict, pleco, and the jewels. but it could also have a male convict and jack dempsey or salvini if te monsters breed. please tell me if this could possibly work cause that would be soooo cool. (btw the father would be an f1 male from jeff rapps.)

never mind she was just beat up. I put in some melafix and squeezed a bit of my own aloe yesterday. now her pelvic fin is dropped like normal and it is just a bit tattered

wow that is really quite disturbing. maybe it had something to do with the pressure created by the filter forcing blood into selected capilarysmaking them expand and pop forming a blister-like thing.

I just noticed that my festae is keping one of her pelvic finns up. it looks torn and I cant see if i is a defective dwarfed gimped fin or if it is just wounded. She came from the petstore kinda torn up. what would this be??? the spine things of the fin seem to be clamped together making me think it is a birth defect. I will try to post a pic but please reply fast. riverfront doesnt have a very long return polocy

I do have some concerns though. she is one of the smallest fish in my tank. And if they grow slowly... Exactly how slowly do they grow? like a green terror? what foods can I feed her to speed up her growth? She was one of the bigger festaes in the tank at riverfront. the problem is she is only about 3 inches while my midas is 5. Maybe being the smallest in the tank will humble her. also should I be concerned that she isnt showing her stripes? just black splotches like a 5 star general (but 7 splotches) only after she has been fighting you can start to seethe stripes. also she isnt very colorfull compared to other festaes I have seen on the internet of her size. I thought wild coughts where supposed to be pretty.

ok yay I finally got one. she Is soo cute! I will post pics soon. Rapps says you can get females with spangling on the body but you will never get black allong the doral of a male. She is young, still arround 3 inches and pretty scrawny. Does anyone know at what size/age they start really showing color? right now there is prety much just 7 black splotches on her sides but when she is pissed you can start to see really faint blueish black barrs. she has a bit of spangling, who knows maye she will turn out to be nice.

yea I took that into account. this is kinda off topic but does anyone know the average cost of KW/hours I may not halfto sell the tank if I do get a job that can sustain the cost of running a 180 gallon tank. christmas money covers the glass, the cutts and the drilling. I am going to make the bottom plywood with a layer of 3 mm acrylic on top of the plywood. im getting one of those 35 dollar plywood aquariums in the bargain finder. This will be the sump.
