  1. What stores calgary/edmonton carry the cheapest supply of live rock?
  2. Oh makes sense now. What kind of light would I need to sustain reef life for a 100g tank? I just want to know how much this is all going to cost. Anybody know some cheap yet effective lights?
  3. Alright thanks. So in my saltwater conversion it looks like I need to change my lights, heater, buy a skimmer, possibly get a sump and a wave maker (I'm considering reefing). Also, can somebody explain to me what the function of the sump really is? I'm not entirely sure of its importance and if its vital for a saltwater tank. If I'm missing anything required for a saltwater tank (aside from the livestock) don't hesitate to tell me.
  4. Thanks for the replies guys. Theres a lot of info within those sites
  5. Hey guys, I'm thinking about converting one of my tanks into a saltwater tank and I was wondering if any of you guys know any good online guides on starting up a saltwater fish tank or just any good advice. I heard the bigger the tank the better, so I'm going to use my 100 gal. Also for a tank this large, is a sump absolutely necessary?
  6. If it will eventually settle or be filtered out I will glady wait a week rather then take all the water out not to mention put like half of it in a bucket to retain the bacteria culture and then add it back in, on top of that, putting the fish in the styrofoam box with the filter and airstone in it.
  7. Ah great should of just washed it. I was hurrying because I have two oscars that I had to put in a styrofoam box while I was doing this all and I felt bad for them. Is there anything I can do that wont make me put them back in that box (I put them in the tank because the ammonia level was getting dangerous in the box)? Perhaps water changes to take out excess sand? Above the sand there is a little layer of even finer sand, the sand that gets swirled around when I touch the sand.
  8. I heard you could use it so I bought some and put it in my 100 gallon. Its just its so messy. I thought it would clear up in a couple hours but its been 24 hours and still looks the same as the time I filled up my water. Ive seen videos of people cleaning sand in their tank and the sand wasnt too messy but when I even touch my sand the slighest, it forms a messy cloud. Does play box sand just suck and I have to get better sand to do the whole process over again, or do I just have to wait an extra long time for it to settle? I got burnco sterilized and washed sand at rona.
  9. I said I took everything out MINUS the rocks. That means the rocks were still in the tank. Anyways thanks williewonka, I added back some decorations to give them a little cover.
  10. New to raising fry so I thought I'd throw out some questions to learn a little more about them. Heres a little info. 16 fish in total all about 3/4 of an inch: 4 burundi frontosas 2 brichardi 5 red zebras 2 electric blues 3 electric yellows Currently in a 20 gallon tank (dont worry I have a couple other tanks to put them in not to mention to 100+ tank thats waiting for the 4 fronts). 1) How often must water changes be done? 2) How long is feeding time, how much do I feed, and how many times do I feed per day? ->I'm feeding them NLS growth formula. I took everything out of my tank minus the rocks because I heard that fry arent very good eaters and if they hide they wont know when to come out when food is available. 3) So my question is, will they get stressed with no places to hide?
  11. There was no fish in the tank. I was just testing the filter.
  12. I fixed it. Just took it apart and cleaned it out. Very Disgusting.
  13. What makes no sense is that the suction tube is clean but the tube that puts the water back is clogged that means the filter itself must need a cleaning. Do you know any site online that shows you how to clean this filter?
  14. I bought an Eheim 2217 Filter Classic from this guy and I put it in my tank. It was working for a bit but had bad suction. Now it appears to have no suction at all. He bought it in 2003 so I'm not sure if you have to clean these things out or what. Any suggestions?
  15. About 2 inches. All my fish are babies, I got into the hobby again.
