  1. What exactly happens if you don't change out the carbon... i've been lazy the last while... Doesn't that Carbon just become unactive and do nothing? Or can it actually do some harm??
  2. Im currently running my Fluval with only 2 bags of carbon, and 3 completely empty trays... Does anyone out there use Live rock or marco in their canisters?
  3. Yeah.... its since changed... now its coralless as Im waiting to get my corals in my 90 big enough to frag and then place in the nano... or so thats the plan... That nano is for sale to anyone who is interested ina setup not even 2 mths old. 2 powerheads, heater, glass tops, BF 8gallon, PC lighting, ac mini... rock, salt, sand... 2 clowns if you want em...
  4. Hey Jenn I use a Corallife Super Skimmer, and although some people here dislike them... i think it does a great job. Skims a lot, and only overflowed when i didn't completely know what I was doing... works like a charm now! Research that one a bit... cause you can sometimes find a used one for a great deal, like i did! thanks Rudy!
  5. Set up the protein skimmer at the start... expecially if you choose to have a sand bed... the sand, even after it is rinsed, will still cloud everything up, and a protein skimmer will actually help seperate all the fine fine particles making that cloudyness from the water! my skimmer sure saved my tank when I added sand!
  6. If you are looking to buy a nano tank... i think im gonna sell my 8 gallon bowfront. I can include the glasstops and PC fixture, ac mini, 2 powerheads and submersible heater.. rock and sand too if you want. Reason for selling is my tiny anenome swam into the powerhead, and it died, and I just wanna stick to my 90gallon from now on. Lemme know Ty
  7. Thanks guys... i just always connect starfish to 5 legs... it looked like a starfish, but there are so many different bad bugs you can get... always safe than sorry, eh?
  8. What has six legs, is ugly as sin, and looks like a starfish? I dunno, and thats where you come in... Any guess? Can starfish actually have 6 legs?? WTF
  9. Woof And while im posting Meow x2
  10. Hey connie, what type of fish is that again? I've seen them in a few stores... but i can't recall the name Thanks in advance Ty
  11. thanks for the shrooms They're great Hopefully they open up and show color like yours
  12. I miss my crayfish... had 4 piranhas and one blue crayfish together... they actually lived together just fine... Owell, im into salties now edit: Nice pics btw, lol. Whatcha feeding him??
  13. can you frag me some of the blasto's?!? They look great!!!!
  14. Very nice I like the pictures of the pom pom, looks better than mine :P
  15. mines at 1.025... so hmm, maybe i'll let it go down a bit
  16. That one you asked about, i bought from some guy and was told it was a toadstool leather.. it decided to fall off its rock, and I haven't had luck getting it stuck back to any... grrrr
  17. Still trying to get everything how i want it... but here we go... its an 8gallon bowfront, 2 powerheads, 9lbs rock, 9" pc's from golds, thanks!, and yeah.. 1.025 salinity... Houses a clownfish, yellowtail damsel, and 2 annoying seaslugs (just moved my tree from the 90 back into the nano... its a bugger, doesn't like either, anyone wanna buy it??)
  18. This is guy is doing great... and both the people at big als said that they'd be fine in my tank, but again, thats big al, where intelligence is limited... thanks Ty
  19. I need to know if a Racoon Butterfly can co-exist with soft corals?? The websites i've read say that they can't... and I really like him... If they can't, anyone want to buy a racoon Butterfly??? Thanks Ty
  20. Golds doesn't post many prices on their webpage, because they constantly have new items coming in, and availability constantly changing. Dennis at golds gets his tanks at wholesale, so you must place an order with him to get a tank made. Right now he isn't taking orders, but he should be soon (as he had so many orders in the last few weeks... hehe, ralph bucks are to blame for that) best thing to do, is to go down there and ask him for prices... No gst if you pay cash or debit and yeah, canisters are good, but when one a budget, you should be able to get a pair of AC500 (aquaclear's is what AC stands for, they are made by Hagen... good filter with great flow) The only reason you would wanna get a canister is if you have lots of cash, or if you are putting a tank in a room like a living room, or bedroom, as AC's can be quite noisy if the water level isn't topped up If you really want a good tank with good filtration, read up on having a sump (tank hidden underneath, that is used as a giant filter). Thats what most saltwater people use, and what probably 1/4 of the people with 90's use...
  21. When i was at big als yesterday, that wanted $1800 for a 90 gallon, stand, light and canopy... (nice stand and canopy) I just ordered a special made 90gallon tank from golds, with all the adjustments i need for saltwater for $250.... i bought another 90 gallon last year for $210.... with glass tops. You can get cheap lights from golds aswell... they'd be the best place to go if you want to find out how cheap cheap can be. Orrrr, to get used for cheap, go to www.buysell.com Im selling just a 90gallon tank in a few days here... haven't decided how much to ask for it... but it will be less than $160 for sure... (no stand or lights but if you go buy a cheap reflector, i can include 2 t4 plant bulbs... plenty of light for a freshwater aquarium) Best thing you can do is shop around... when I first go into the hobby have a decade ago, i bought a 30 gallon from bigals, and later found it for half the price new... On my 90gallon, i put 1 200wattt heater, and will be waiting to but the next one on there.... Its good having 2... incase like said, the heating in your house goes down hill, or if one burns out, the second backs it up... ty
  22. Brite lite in the NE sells ballasts for cheap, and bulbs. I got 2 PC ballast, 5 bulbs, and all my plugs and hangers for just over $130... I think the ballasts were $35 each, and the bulbs 7.15 each, and the plugs were like 4... The reason i got 2 ballasts was to overdrive the each bulb.
  23. Im gonna get a CSS 3002, as I have found a used one for a decent price... Eventually this tank will be used for corals and that, so i hope this sized skimmer should be able to work for both, if not i'll trade it up when i can afford it Thanks guys for all your opinions and tips. And for the little lesson on abreviations! Ty
  24. Im gonna be starting out with predators, then along the way i will switch over to corals most likely. Im not too formiliar with the abreivations you used... such as: NW FOLR LPS SPS As for the prism, its a definate no. Im still on the fence between the CSS and Remora... I don't really like the price of the Remora, as I think the 3002 CSS will be able to do the job, predators or corals.... wtac, so the Remora didn't skim at all for you?? Midgetwaiter, The CSS puts more nitrates in the water that I don't want through bubbles? Im not realy sure at what you are getting at with that.... IF thats the case, then the Remora is good for corals as it won't? Thanks
