  1. What Jayba said. The beef heart is a protein source totally foreign to the intestinal flora of fish, and therefore most don't really have the necessary intestinal flora and enzymes to properly digest not only the protein but also the fats. This is accentuated with young fry whose intestinal tracts take time to develop the intestinal flora that they will have as adults. If you don't want to use a tank, I'm betting that one of those Marina holding/breeding containers will work really well with the initial raising of the fry. Why are you not feeding them live baby brine shrimp? I know that they'll eat that.

  2. So I've been keeping fish now since roughly 2010. Mostly cichlids, seemed to be all I could keep alive for a while hah. I could never figure out why people would rave about Corie's, they just kind of seemed to be there. I would buy one at a time and they last through everything really. I finally decided to get a medium sized group of Sterbai, I liked the looks of them and thought they might be fun to watch as a group. They have been a lot of fun.

Recently I picked up 20 pygmy cories and put them in a very simple tank with some plants, cardinal tetras, another bigger Cory and a bristlenose. Last night when I fed them and just sat there and watched something went off in my head. I get it now. They are truly amazing to watch. Its taken a few years but it all makes sense, I guess it took a large group of them for me to get a true sense of appreciation for them.

I don't know where I go from here (probably a bunch more of them now) but I see why people were talking so passionately about Cories. Would like to hear any similar thoughts or stories too.

    Were they pygmaeus or hastatus?

  3. The eggs are adhesive, so I think that any attempt to siphon them might damage them. Is there any way that you can cordon off the area of the tank that they are in to allow them to hatch their eggs? If not, you could try to remove the substrate that the eggs are on, and the male to a separate tank, to allow him to try to hatch them in peace. The young are fairly easy to raise on live bbs and fine sinking food.

  4. There's not many people out there with great familiarity with the whiptail tribe. In person, using planetcatfish/ cat-e-log is going to be much more accurate than any picture. Try it and see what you come up with. Let us know what you think is the proper ID..

  5. Come around 10 to view the lots and see if there's anything that tickles your fancy. The format will be explained briefly before the auction begins. Stay, watch the proceedings, and bid on what you like. If you are a member of an approved aquarium club you can run a tab, if not cash is needed.

  6. :cuss: Actually I've been working with an allergist for the last few months and she thinks that I'm cured, so bring it on! I just got back from the Catfish Convention in Washington so I haven't had a chance to compile my list of items. Pretty much guaranteed to have some exotic Corys there.

  7. Oliver would be able to identify them properly for you. If you do get some ask Oliver to specify the collection site, as there are a couple of locations that eques are found and the care for the two are different. If you do arrange for a shipment let it be known here as there may be other people willing to go in with you for some.
